Watching the languages, I see that all languages with 99% or 100% has
been included in the release. So I think (IMHO) that Asturian language
must be included:

Maybe another typo?

This is probably a better discussion for the meego-il10n mailing list. I think
this list of languages was picked based on the status of the translation when
we froze development over a week ago to give us time for QA on the languages.
Additional languages will be added in the future, and that discussion is
happening in meego-il10n. Hopefully someone on that list can provide a more
detailed update on the process for adding new languages as updates to releases.

 http://meego.com/community/blogs/imad/2010/meego-v1.0-core-software-platform-netbook-user-experience-project-release

 Hi everyone,

Today we are announcing the project release of MeeGo v1.0. This release
provides developers with a stable core foundation for application
development and a rich user experience for Netbooks. The MeeGo Netbook user
experience is the first to appear, with the development of the MeeGo Handset
user experience moving to the open in June.

Releases are planned on a six month cadence. MeeGo v1.1 will be released
in October and it will include support for touch-based devices, such as
Handsets, Tablets, and In-Vehicle Infotainment systems. The development tree
for MeeGo v1.1 is now open and we will start releasing various components in
the v1.1 tree, including opening the development of the handset user
 experience in June.

We are now releasing the MeeGo API which includes Qt 4.6, the MeeGo SDK
with an integrated application development environment, and various other
operating system tools. Currently, the MeeGo SDK is focused on Netbooks, but
the next version of the MeeGo SDK, an early developer release in June, will
support touch-based devices, such as Handsets and Tablets.

The MeeGo Netbook User Experience includes:
  - Visually rich Netbook user experience, building on the latest open
 source technologies.
  - Instant access to your synchronized calendar, tasks, appointments,
 recently used files
and real-time social networking updates through the home screen.
  - Aggregation of your social networking content. This allows you to see
 your social
networking activities on one screen, easily interact with your friends,
 and update
   your status and site information.
  - For a fast and rich Internet experience the MeeGo Netbook user
 experience integrates
Google Chrome or, if you prefer a fully open source browser solution,
 Google Chromium
is also provided. Soon we will be releasing the MeeGo Handset user
 experience which
will use the Fennec Mozilla Browser.
  - Easy to use applications for email, calendar and media player.
  - Highly optimized for power and performance.
  - Languages: Japanese, Korean, Chinese Simplified, Chinese Traditional,
 Swedish, Polish,
Finnish, Italian, Brazilian Portuguese, French, German, Spanish,
 Russian, Dutch, English,
British English. Additional language translations being added by the
 community

The MeeGo v1.0 Core Software Platform Features include:
  - Kernel based on 2.6.33
  - DeviceKit and udev for interacting with hardware devices
  - Modern 2D / 3D graphics stack including Kernel Mode Setting, non-root X
  - Voice and data connectivity with Connman connection manager, Ofono
 telephony stack
   and BlueZ Bluetooth
  - Qt 4.6
  - Universal Plug and Play (gUPnP)
  - Media frameworks
  - Next generation file system BTRFS, as the default file system

[MeeGo-dev] Submitting packages ?

2010-05-26 Thread Glen Gray
Hey Guys,

Is there a method for accepting community packages yet ?

I've got the Broadcom WiFi drivers packaged up and running on my Dell Mini9 and
rather than hosting repo's for MeeGo, like I did for Moblin, I'd like to submit
them for the benefit of others.

Looking forward to a response,

Do you have redistribution rights / is this a true open source package?
Or are we running into the situation were all we have is a binary
package that according to its original license cannot be re-distributed?

[MeeGo-dev] Why is the download URL hidden? or why control freaks make me mad...

2010-05-26 Thread Fernando Cassia
Hi,

I started downloading the MeeGo 1.0 release, somehow the connection
was cut at around 60MB (I mean the TCP connection, not my machine´s
broadband connection).

I then tried to look in the html source for the TOS Agreement page
to see if the real download URL was hidden there. I couldn´t find it.

So I fired a packet sniffer, trying to grab the real download URL for
the file, couldn´t see it.

It seems to me that the browser sends the click of the TOS agreement
to the server as an http post and the server replies by sendind back
the file.
Am I correct?.

Why all this hassle?. Why do companies have become control freaks?.
Why not follow the KISS philosophy?? (Keep It Simple, S**opid).

And what is wrong with a good, old-fashioned FTP server in the first
place?. FTP was designed to transfer large binaries and is really
useful when dealing with really big files like cd images and the like,
you know??.

Thoughts? Comments? Expletives?

[MeeGo-dev] Rebuilding the kernel

2010-05-26 Thread Mark Constable
Is it feasible/possible to rebuild the kernel within the Meego
v1 installation itself?

The supplied kernel is missing a rtl8192se wireless driver and
I have the source from Realtek but there is no gcc/make and maybe
no headers for the kernel so building the driver may not be
feasible which means I probably need to rebuild the kernel itself.

Or, what is the best way for me to get this wireless driver up
and running?

BTW the root password is meego.

The problem with virtualization is that the UI requires OpenGL and without

an exact quote).

Can someone get me a screenshot of this asap? Preferrably in PNG
format. This would be perfect for my Akademy 2010 talk (Enhancing User
Engagement on Mobile Devices) and of course supports the MeeGo User
Engagement Framework meta project [1].

And while I'm on that subject: we are still looking for people inspired
to help with research into constructing a (for now) hypothetical
framework for a mobilized feedback ecosystem. Reply by email or sign up
on the project page if interested! If you can Google, read, copy and
paste, you're hired!

Thanks,
