[MeeGo-dev] OPENGL ES 2.0 kfgles2.ko of meego handset

2010-07-01 Thread yespmc
1.Test meego handset UI, It's killed , and a little log as follow:
...
[01.590340] [1520] wait_for_X_exit
[01.590593] [1520] process 1552 exited with exit code 127
[01.590642] [1520] Session process [1552] exited, cleaning up
[01.673995] [1520] process 1540 exited with exit code 0
[01.674121] [1520] Xorg[1540] exited, cleaning up
[01.674157] [1520] Setting console mode to KD_TEXT
[01.789958] [1555] Starting start-pulseaudio-x11 with prio 1 at 20
[03.685860] [1520] Terminating uxlaunch and all children
...

2.and execute mdecorator ,it need /dev/kfgles2 and display error as follow:
ERROR: Couldn't open device /dev/kfgles2!: No such file or directory. GLES2 & EG
L calls will result in failure
mdecorator: cannot connect to X server

3.My question:
Although the site address
"http://meego.gitorious.org/qemu-maemo/gles-libs/trees/master/kfgles2"; , there
is some information about kfgles2.
In kfgles2_main.c
static unsigned long KFGLES2_HWBASE = 0x4f00;
static unsigned int KFGLES2_HWSIZE = 0x0010;
it request iomap addr KFGLES2_HWBASE in KFGLES2_HWSIZE size and mmap to user
space if client requests, i guess GPU buffer address, what does it mean ?

I have a driver .ko about 3D , but code is close source, datasheet is public.
what shoud I do,I have no idea to do next step !

Best Reguards!

Hi Ameya

What do you mean by kernel Image for N900?

I mean the the vmlinuz and modules for N900 ..

vmlinuz and modules for N900 should be available through kernel-n900 rpm
package.

Can you please let me the link for the same, as I could only see the link for
only for "Aava" for the latest relaese for 1.0 ?

As I have already flash Meego with earlier Images on N900 where it was
displaying X Term .. Now I am eagerly waiting to see the MeeGo UI on my N900
..

Thanks a lot in advance for all the help ..

2010-07-01 Thread 韩茂琨
Hi, Haitao

yes I definitely have 'xhost +local:' run before invoke 'meego-sdk-chroot',

I am wondering what you guys are developing meego with? (opensuse? fedora?
ubuntu?) first I work with ubuntu for convenience of maemo development, then I
saw in meego.com that suse is coming in, then I am trying opensuse, now,
yesterday I saw the meego image built is only available for
fedora..."http://wiki.meego.com/ARM/Creating_ARM_image_using_MeeGo_Image_Creator";.

Haitao, would you suggest me a platform for development purpose?
Thank you in advance!

There's already a digest mode and mailing list archives. And using
mailing list is sort of a basic skill when you communicate within online
projects.

If someone does not want to receive mail from a mailing list, why in the
first place would they subscribe? Even if they did for some reason, why
wouldn't they use the same method to unsubscribe or change the mail
delivery mode, and pester everyone with their pleads?

The questions are rhetoric BTW, no need to reply. :)

There is one, it is called a "digest". Members can configure the mail
list server to send that instead of individual mails.

The best approach would be for users to read the instructions.

[MeeGo-dev] How to get a (working!) graphical SDK/chroot on non-Intel cards

2010-07-01 Thread Robin Burchell
Hi all,

After a bit more back and forth recently on the graphical environment
on non-Intel cards issue, I thought I'd have a look at it myself when
I (by chance) ended up needing to set up an SDK chroot on my (NVidia
powered) laptop.

As some people rightfully pointed out, MeeGo failed to produce
anything graphical inside the started Xephyr instance, which didn't
overly surprise me given I have heard mixed reports about it working
and not working.

What did, however, surprise me was that, if I start Xephyr from
outside the chroot environment:
bur...@virgin:~$ Xephyr :2 -ac -host-cursor -screen 1024x768

and then proceed to launch the GUI inside the chroot:
r...@meego-netbook-sdk:/# startmeego

I seem to actually get something usable, even if not lightning fast
(think Maemo scratchbox speeds..).
(see: http://w00t.dereferenced.net/meego-gui.png)

Is this something that we can use to help identify/fix up the SDK to
work more robustly on non-Intel cards?

(I haven't updated the wiki page with these findings yet as I've no
clue how to word the instructions. Anyone up to the challenge?)

Regards,

I don't believe there is a single download with the source code of all the
project components. As with any other FOSS project you can find the
individual revision controlled repos for the components. You also can
get the source RPMs (*.src.rpm) under the respective 'source' dir in
http://repo.meego.com/ These can be installed in a RPM-based system
and built. Useful if you are trying to build/rebuild RPM packages from
those. In short these are RPM package repositories.

I'm not sure what you exactly mean. I'm assuming you are confused
about what's in each different location. As for the r.m.c see the above.
http://meego.gitorious.org/ hosts the version controlled (Git) source
code repositories (opposed to RPM repos) where MeeGo systems
developers collaborate.

I agree that the 'Developer Guide' page and http://meego.com/developers
pages aren't quite distinguishing between MeeGo system developers
and the Application Developers for MeeGo. Somebody who can make
changes to the main web have to make it happen on the main web site.

As for your subject, those pages mainly point you to places where you
should refer if you are an application developer.

There is currently no ready made image for the N900. The rootfs you're
seeing is the old (March) one. You have to create your own image using
the provided .ks file.

It seems like you are receiving your emails as a digest.

Mailman doesn't make it easy to reply to a single message in a digest,
or collapse threads you're not interested in. There is talk of having MM
optionally do HTML digests with some nice features like "Reply to
sender" and "reply to user" links in the individual emails, and a html
navigable table of contents, that kind of thing. But it's not a reality yet.

Your best solution is to set your list subscription to "immediate
delivery", and use an email client which allows you to collapse threads,
and concentrate only on the emails you are interested in.

I was looking for a TB add-on that parsed MM digests at one stage, and
realised that the interface I really wanted was to get the emails once a
day, and have them cut into individual emails. So instead of doing that,
I just got the mails regularly, and read my email every couple of hours.

Cheers,
Dave.

Now that Handset UX “day 1” is out, is there any news on this? There are
few commits here and there in the Meego Platform Security project in
gitorious (http://meego.gitorious.org/meego-platform-security) (and a
dpkg tree :) but it seems that some bits are still missing (and
documentation, too :)

As I understand it, Meego 1.1 “developper review” doesn't have a
security architecture yet, but is it planned for 1.1 or for later (as it
was intended for Harmattan and I have to admit I have no idea where
Harmattan currently sits, between Fremantle and Meego 1.1)?

[MeeGo-dev] html mail or thread sorted by thread

2010-07-01 Thread Dengyi Wang

Hi,

I have a question about the email format for meego-dev.

Currently, it only support plain text email. Do you have any plan to
support html email?

I know many people consider html email as a bad idea. Anyway, I want to
save time to only watch thread interesting for me. Here is my problem.

Every email include dozens of threads. In general, I'm only interested
in couple of topics. Since threads are sorted by time, I need to search
the subject inside the email to find what I'm interested.

Is there any easy way to avoid this? I'm thinking

1) html mail format

2) thread are sorted by thread. It's even better to organize the email
by thread.

3) Is there any Thunerbird addon can help in this situation?

Regards,

Dengyi Wang

Even if you might be targeting the Handset UX, the idea is that you can and
will want to recycle as much work as possible for other UXs. For this reason
the default starting point is Qt and the corresponding Qt SDK.

Regular unstable MeeGo SDK builds are on its way, just not ready yet. In the
meantime, those willing to get familiar with the environment can try the Nokia
Qt SDK and have a look at the Qt 4.7 novelties. The architecture and the
components are the same, it's only the targets that differ.

If you want to speed up quickly then Qt Quick is a good choice. See
http://qt.nokia.com/developer/qt-qtcreator-prerelease/

Note though that all these pieces are being integrated and polished as we
speak. MeeGo 1.1 is not yet ready for application developers just looking for a
stable and reliable environment.

I used the Wiki instructions, which got me started fairly quickly (less
than half a day?). But I'm not a new employee and already knew the basic
steps.

I don't know. I could have asked, but going through the Wiki
instructions was a worthwhile experiment by itself, so I did that
instead.

I guess if you have someone hand-holding you (as it would be the case
for a new on-site employee), then there are easier ways, like simply
copying a full chroot. Externally we'll need something more sustainable
- in other words, SDKs.

This gives the same error for me :

I guess 'self' is of type LiveCDYum and Python can't find any 'arch'

I can't say I'm surprised that it works differently on a fedora system
since it uses yum.

If I comment out that whole block :

What's the development environment of those working on the Handset UX;
how are they managing to do development; and how do they get new
employees up to speed quickly? I imagine they don't point to the image
creator or the chroot instructions and say "figure it out from there";

It is possible to build your own chroot by following the instructions
here:
http://wiki.meego.com/Building_a_MeeGo_chroot_on_Linux

I've done it recently, using a Netbook boot image with the Handset bits.
With the public image it will be a bit harder to extract the filesystem.
Note that the download locations mentioned in that page need to be
updated - see my comment in the "talk page" there.

Hi 王恒迎,

It seems to be something related with the arch.
What command line did you use?

My command is:
"sudo mic-image-creator -c
../ks/meego-handset-armv7l-n900-nokia-closed-1.0.80.8.20100630.ks -f
raw -a arm"
You should give "-a arm" option to the mic-image-creator.

Now I can produce an image file.
But While creating, there are always some warning messages come out.
Can anybody explain what do these messages mean? Thanks!

Guess you wanna this one: http://bugs.meego.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1794 - [ext3]
Disable fsck's last mount time check.
It was fixed on 05-13 and verified with meego-netbook-1.0-20100521

Thanks,

[MeeGo-dev] About building Handset UX Day1 image for N900; some notes and explanations

2010-07-01 Thread harri.hakulinen
Hello Meegos,

As you know, yesterday Handset UX developement was opened in MeeGo. As N900 is
the other hanset reference device in MeeGo, we are of course actively
developing all the required adaptation elements to make it possible to run
MeeGo Handset UX on N900.

>From N900 adaptation point of view, we have had some quite nasty last minute
>stabilty broblems related to our Day1 builds. It looks like Wlan and connman
>are not working nicely together now, and we don't know yet what exactly is the
>problem. We have recently started to use .35rc3 kernel, but that does not seem
>to be the issue, it's rather something related to wlan or Connman
>configuration, or something above connman that we are not fully aware of.

Now, when all the related source's are available, perhaps we can solve those
issues as MeeGo community !

This really is Day 1 "codedrop" for Hanset UX rather than release, we also have
bunch of other known issues and errors, like

- Wlan does not work on every boot
   * sometimes you need to boot again..

- Sreen rotation does not work
   * our accelerometer sensor is not working right at the moment

- On some applications closing button is hardly visible

- You can use home button once per application to go to task swicther, and come
back, but not more than that
   * this is known bug in framework

- There is no phone functionality
* Our new opensource drivers for modem module are not stable enough yet.

And in addition we still have some issues know already earlier, like

- Battery loading does not work
* BME, (nokia closed) component still don't work properly..

Because of all this and some misc problems, we decided that there is no point
of creating ready-made image for N900. However, there is everything available
to build your own image if you are really interested to try it now. Many things
are now moving all the time, and what you get with these instructions is in
fact the daily image containing the latest state of MeeGo Handset UX
development for N900.

After all, this is "code drop" related to MeeGo development, and it is actually
interesting first exercise to setup your build environment and start your MeeGo
development by creating your first image yoursefl !

The kickstart file to enable the image creation is available at

 http://tablets-dev.nokia.com/meego-codedrop.php

Before you can download it, you need to enter valid IMEI code of your N900
device. That is required because of our current licensensing situation for some
closed components that are required to build functional Handset UX Day 1 image.
We are working on this issue and I hope we can get rid of this extra step in
very near future.

Some instructions are available at

http://wiki.meego.com/ARM/N900/Releases/Daily
Theu are still under development and may contain some errors, please bear with
un on this one as well.

So, now you should have practically everything available, so lets make MeeGo
1.1 happen together !

Br,
//Harri
