Also, the wireless switch wasn't working and after reprogramming the

2011-09-29 Thread Leonardo Luiz Padovani da Mata
So, Intel decided to left MeeGo, it's clear that their effort on the
platform has gone. We need to organize the community to keep MeeGo
development.

I think that many other companies have interest in continue the
development of MeeGo.

Metasys consider MeeGo the best sollution available for Netbook
platform and we are already deploying MeeGo on schools. For us the
development continue, i think we (the community) need to settle new
goals and reorganize the governance of MeeGo.

The MeeGo kernel doesn't use an initrd, to make it faster on boot, i
 guess.
The problem i'm facing is that when i install the system on a netbook with
a usb disk the order of the disks change and i have problems booting after
the installation. If i change the boot loader information and plug a
pen-drive at boot time, the order change again.

We faced the same problem. We had a netbook where during installation it
recognised the hard disk as the secondary device, and wrote /dev/sdbx in the
fstab, which led to kernel panic during boot after the installation was
over. We fixed this by making manual changes to the installer python scripts
 in the installer RPM.

can you point me on the source code with these changes?

Sometimes the Lenovo wifi card gets into a state where the rfkill
cannot be used to unblock the card. If this is the case, you need to
reset the BIOS to Setup Default State. At least on S10-3t it fixed
the wifi detection problem.

Check this thread:
http://forum.meego.com/showthread.php?t=2011page=2

Just tried to clear the BIOS from the GUI:
This worked for me:
At startup - press F2 to go into the BIOS
When in the BIOS:
press F9 to apply the setup defaults
press F10 to save and exit

Hope that this can help.

For meego, if your platform is pinetrail based, which is using .38 kernel,
you can pick up that patch gabriel posted (0001-hid...) and recompile the

Of course, if you are not in hurry for this support, you can wait for future

Hello Florent

To come back at the subject of the need of a file browser, lets
suppose that you had a trip in a foreign country with friends and that
now you want to show them all that you have from the trip. Will you
prefer to have one folder with all the videos, photos, pdf scan of
documents or to open the photo viewer to show them the photos, then go
to the video player to browse the videos then to the pdf viewer to
browse the pdfs, then to go back in all those applications to export
to an usb key or import these data?

By the other hand there is an averange joe that just want to see a
popup with a message import all files when they plug a pen-drive.
And this import send the files to the correct program where it will be
used (pdf to viewrs, ebook to ereader, photos to gthumb, etc).

I agree that we need simple way to do stuff, but we can't think that
some users want to have more control to the system.

Re: [MeeGo-dev] File manager for Tablet Edition

2011-07-01 Thread Leonardo Luiz Padovani da Mata
I think that would be an example of what Steve Jobs would call 'lack of
focus'. The failure to say 'no' when it makes sense.

I also think the fact that iOS have just dropped letting the users see the
 file
system without coming up with a compelling alternative like KDE Nepomuk
Activities or something similar with Tracker is one of their biggest competive
 weaknesses.

We should consider that they design their own device and they have
focus on 3 devices only (1 tablet, 1 cellphone and 1 computer).

The MeeGo community have to focus on a large variety of devices and
users, that's the biggest difference.
But the answer to the problems and behavior of users will not be the
same, so we need to focus.

A file browser could be an optional app enabled on the configuration,
so instead of having just the option to import, adding a new option to
open in a file browser.

As i remember, the default runlevel for MeeGo is 3, not 5, so adding
it to rc3.d might work also.
On our sollution the package containing the daemon creates a .desktop
on /etc/xdg/autostart with the commands that you wish to run on
openning the UX, but this is just a workaround since we don't want to
change the scripts.

The MeeGo daemons are started by /etc/rc.sysvinit

Notice that this is how the NETBOOK version work, please check if the

can you reproduce this with the meego reference set of these ?

I will try to reproduce this problem with default MeeGo image, the thing
is that i didn't receive the hardware samples where this problem is
 ocurring.

Can the developers point to where the sollution os fixed? Also, one
question is kickstart out of the installation process?

we probe sata before USB, so internal storage gets found and assigned a
 device node before USB does.
the installer does magic to ensure internal sata happens ok during the
 installation process
syslinux just does the right thing as boot loader

Interesting... is this a special udev rule?

I don't know why you chose to use grub; we use syslinux just like just
about any other distro on the planet
(various other distros then switch to a different bootloader after
installation.. we don't, why mix in 2 risks into it)

I use grub on the installed system, not on the installer boot loader. We
support dual boot and we prefer to use grub. :-)

[MeeGo-dev] Initrd on Kernel to mount root with UUID

2011-06-04 Thread Leonardo Luiz Padovani da Mata
Hello folks, how are you?

I'm facing an interesting problem and i think that the solution is simple,
but i'd like to discuss it on the list.

The MeeGo kernel doesn't use an initrd, to make it faster on boot, i guess.
The problem i'm facing is that when i install the system on a netbook with a
usb disk the order of the disks change and i have problems booting after the
installation. If i change the boot loader information and plug a pen-drive
at boot time, the order change again.

Using UUID of disks solve the problem, but without a initrd on the kernel
the system cannot boot, since UUID mounting is available only with initrd.
(also LABEL mounting)

We use a custom kernel here and we use grub boot loader, but this problem
may happened on other boot loaders. There is one solution to use GUID
without initrd:
http://www.linux-archive.org/gentoo-user/481167-mounting-root-partition-uuid-no-initrd-needed.html

I'd like to know if someone else have the same problem and discuss what is
the best solution. This may also happened on the Core version of MeeGo, can
someone try to reproduce the issue?

IVI currently uses pocketsphinx which is a lighter version of cmusphinx

 speech recognition.

Is pocketsphinx only used on speech-recognition from taskbar?

Does the system have hooks to add this support on other applications?

THank you. Yes, QT have the api for systray, it is ok for KDE. But in
Meego netbook UX, display icons in bottom blank tray bar looks bad.
i want to put my application icon on the top toolbar in Meego as
 http://help.meego.com/netbook/settings/customize-toolbar/customize-toolbar
But didn't find the API to handle it. Check the code and find meego
toolbar writed by GTK + Clutter.

I don't know about an API, maybe other people may help, but you can
add a Menu on toolbar by adding it's .desktop and add X-Meego-Panel
entries.

Check the .desktop with this entries on /usr/share/mutter-meego/panels
Also, you should add the service on dbus, check the contents of the
package meego-panel-pasteboard, you will see the .desktop file and the
dbus file that register the service.

Any idea to resovle it? Hope for suggestion.

Re: [MeeGo-dev] [MeeGo-community] GSOC 2011: Idea

2011-03-17 Thread Leonardo Luiz Padovani da Mata

 Hello,

I've an idea for the Google Summer of Code 2011, and I wuold like to discuss
it here before updating the wiki.
My idea is to create an application to monitoring traffic on streets/routes.
With this application everyone with a device (smartphone/laptop/whatever)
with a gps can trace some route.
While tracking, in addition to the coordinates also the istant speed and a
 timestamp will be registered.
This application would have a daemon that does this job (tracking), a simple
UI that show a map (using google maps api)
through which you can search for a street (or a route) and it will give you
information about the average speed (also filtered by time).
One more thing is the necessity to have a 'server' where the registered data
have to be sended. This data has to be stored in a database,
and the server has to be capable of doing operation for calculating the
 average speed and filtering results.
You can also consider this application as a 'social application' : everyone
everywhere can help tracking any street/route.
I would like to do this application with meego since it cover a large number
 of devices (don't forget IVI).
 So, any comments/feedback ?

The idea is to use server information to update the application
traffic? Some cities already have traffic information uploaded to
google maps, maybe you can just use this information instead of
creating a new track.

Do you think that someone wants to share their location every time?
Don't you think this is an private information that should be shared
only to those who are friends. There are some security issues related
on that.

The sever capability is another problem, you need to specify how often
the data should be sent to the server, how much information is sent to
the server and what the server will do with the information. Depending
on the solution you want to provide you will have a NP-complex
problem.

 Thank you.

 Daniele Maio

[MeeGo-dev] Fwd: [MeeGo Platform - Bug 10379] Manual time change is lost after shutdown

2011-02-17 Thread Leonardo Luiz Padovani da Mata
Hello fellows,

I'd like to know how long does it take to a patch be applied into the
package and the package be compiled. I'm really interested on this
change and since the OBS is not public i'd like to get access to
change as soon as possible.

Thanks

I have checked in the patch in 13465, so duplicate this bug.

Hello,

I'm working on deploying customized images in some languages and i
will submit translations here: http://meego.transifex.net/
I'd like to know how long it takes to a translation become part of the

How do i change the version number of packages if i add translation by myself?

No it isn't, but you answer me. :-)

merge times for translations vary, and can be up to months. We're working on
 making this happen faster.

packages are built only after the developer pushes a build to the system,
there is no involvement from translators here. However, you can deploy the
translation on a test box without that.

How do i change the version number of packages if i add translation by
 myself?

you do not, this is done automatically by the build system.

Is this build system public?

Why there's no public access to the build system?

Is the spec for build packages available somewhere else than on the

[MeeGo-dev] Can't rebuild dbus from source rpm

2010-08-06 Thread Leonardo Luiz Padovani da Mata
Hello, I've downloaded the source code of Dbus to rebuild it from:
http://repo.meego.com/MeeGo/releases/1.0/core/repos/source/dbus-1.2.24-7.1.src.rpm

I need to change the rules of /etc/dbus-1/system.conf to add rule:
limit name=max_match_rules_per_connection5/limit
this rule is needed to solve a problem with Packagekit.

When i try rpmbuild this package, one of the patches didn't work:
+ /usr/bin/patch -s -p1 -b --suffix .fd-passing --fuzz=0
1 out of 4 hunks FAILED -- saving rejects to file bus/dispatch.c.rej
error: Bad exit status from /var/tmp/rpm-tmp.10nRIv (%prep)

The rejected patch contains:

-- bus/dispatch.c
+++ bus/dispatch.c
@@ -304,6 +313,16 @@
   addressed_recipient,
   message, error))
 goto out;
+
+ if (dbus_message_contains_unix_fds(message)

+{

+ to a client that doesn't support that.);
+  goto out;
+  }

   /* Dispatch the message */
   if (!bus_transaction_send (transaction, addressed_recipient,
message))

I don't know if i can simply ignore this patch.

The same problem happens with the newest version:
http://repo.meego.com/MeeGo/builds/trunk/1.0.80.13.20100803.2/core/repos/source/dbus-1.2.24-8.7.src.rpm

Any help to rebuild this package or solve this problem?

Thanks

Re: [MeeGo-dev] can't clone the meego-os-kernel source code ?

2010-04-01 Thread Leonardo Luiz Padovani da Mata
BTW, i've just downloaded the kernel package from the repository,
installed, and tried to boot in the moblin version 2.1. It producess
a kernel panic. i still need to test and see what's going on, but the
kernel isn't very stable yet.

 Hi? all:
?it seems I can git clone the meego-os-base source code .e.g:
 $ git clone git://gitorious.org/meego-os-base/kernel-source.git
$ fatal: no matching remote head

That's because there have been no commits yet. As far as I can tell,
it's just a placeholder at the moment.

Which makes no sense to me, as the kernel source is really in a
 different repo.

Wierd, why are there two repos named kernel-source?

there will not be a real source there, but the content of the src.rpm
so that people can get our patches, as few as they are, in incremental steps
rather than having to re-install the src.rpm

Post the kernel panic here and/or open a bug in the bugzilla.

 thanks,

So, the kernel is dump lot's of messages that represents the stack
trace, btw, is there a easy way to dump that messages to a file (LKCD
does that)?

they look like:
[0.184003] Call Trace:
[0.184003] [c1033396] do_exit
and so on..

the message on kernel panic was:
Kernel panic - not syncing: Attempted to kill init!

it shows some messages of the stack trace about acpi, pci_scan and
kernel_thread.

You need to find the first kernel oops message.  If you have the kernel
log, it will be in there.  If it's on the screen, take a picture of it.

since the kernel is dumping the stack trace i can't see the first oops
message.. i will try to change the vga= mode to see more messages.

 thanks,

[MeeGo-dev] 3G support

2010-03-29 Thread Leonardo Luiz Padovani da Mata
Hello,

I'm testing the 3G interface with meego built from packages that i've
mirrored in the past, and i've checked  that this support is still in
development.

Can you tell me what are the plans for the 3G support in moblin/meego ?

Does Ofono will be used to add that support? Anyone knows what are the
plans for this support? How can i help?

Have you heard about third-party software that adds 3G support:
http://www.betavine.net/bvportal/resources/datacards/os/moblin
Anyone have successful used this software?

Thanks.
