Re: [MBZ] Why U no Turnz?!
I am thinking we should all be removing the tumblers on a regular basis and give them a huge cleaning up. Would keep our cars from locking us out. Max, I had the option to use the spray stuff or a smaller liquid bottle to inject the stuff. Poking the key in and jiggling for a few minutes every day served to help the goo flow over parts. The gunk coming out got blacker and thicker each day. Five days in, I used the finish sander to assist the gunk. The key was fully inserted into the tumbler and I placed the sander head on the key head. I applied a variety of pressures to the key and moved it around the cardinal points to make sure every booger let loose. First attempt did not make it work, so I zapped it a few more times until the key decided to turn. clay On May 13, 2014, at 2:17 PM, Meade Dillon wrote: That's awesome! Glad to hear you got it. In a pinch, you can turn the switch with a screwdriver when the cylinder is out. My 123 lock was sticky so I pulled the cylinder and used a non-matching loaner cylinder until the matching one arrived (several weeks). In that car part of the problem was a sticky steering wheel lock mechanism, which improved with lubrication. My 126 lock cylinder failed to the point I could never turn the key to remove the cylinder. That one had to be sawed off (from below) and the entire mechanism (the whole steering wheel lock) replaced. After these experiences, I remove a failing cylinder at the first sign of trouble. I was so happy I leapt out of the car and immediately rang up my indy to ask what I should do. Car still running, I hopped in and in a few moments the spare lock body was installed and the old one removed. I will be headed back once the OE MB tumbler is produced by Black Forest Elves. Until then, I have one key to start the car and one to lock it up clay 2002 s430 - Victor, a Stately well tailored chap 1974 450sl - Frosch - Two tone green 1972 220D - Gump - She was green, simple and ran 1995 E300D - Gave her life to save me against a Dame in a SUV POS 1987 SDL - Beware Nigerian Scammers On Apr 14, 2014, at 12:45 PM, Scott Ritchey wrote: If it's like the locking ignition switch in the 123s and 126s, I would recommend removing the cylinder the very next time you are able to turn the key. Your older setup may be totally different, though. -Original Message- From: Mercedes [mailto:mercedes-boun...@okiebenz.com] On Behalf Of Craig Sent: Monday, April 14, 2014 3:33 PM To: Mercedes Discussion List Subject: Re: [MBZ] Why U no Turnz?! Re: [MBZ] Why U no Turnz?!
Another minor solution I undertook today was to plug the exhaust leak at the cross member. Frosch has the H cross pipe and my indy told me the driver side had a leak that could be patched with a welder. I had seen emissions coming out of the underside of that hole and figured it would be simple. Today I bit the bullet and hit Meineke. Manager got me right on the lift and had the welder dude drop a bead all the way around. Job done, manager give it to me as a freebie. Welder dude pointed out passenger side had small leak and the pipe weld was also failing. Now I have to order a full pipe set from the Sexy Chowda King clay On May 13, 2014, at 4:22 PM, WILTON wrote: Attach key to vibrating plate; insert key; turn sander on; rotate key.
