Hi Max -- I plan to keep an eye on these yards and will be happy to watch for stuff you need - I assume 87-ish 300D and mid 91-94 300TE (I'm just guessing)? My health dictates when I can get in and pull the stuff unfortunately. The good thing is these yards seems to cycle through a lot of cars. The downside is they only keep a car for 30 days before sending them to the scrap yard.So ya gotta get what you want quick or it'll be gone - not by another car-nut but the scrapper! Really irritated me when I went back to get some stuff off a 91 300D just like mine only to find it gone. Bummer... [MBZ] OT - Healthiest States to retire in
Da** - another worst five list that OK makes: The biggest fear for retirees is outliving their money. Medical expenses are a big reason for that concern. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), adults 65 and older spend almost twice as much on health care each year as 45- to 64-year-olds -- three to five times more than all adults younger than 65. Also, nearly 80 percent of seniors have been diagnosed with at least one chronic condition, while half suffer from at least two ailments. But seniors are becoming more active. Physical inactivity among older Americans declined from 30.3 percent to 28.7 percent in the past year, as reported by the United Health Foundation. Compiling data from more than 12 government agencies and research organizations, the foundation's annual state rankings of senior health are based on 34 measures of well-being. *Winning top honors as the healthiest state for the second year in a row: Minnesota.* The state ranked first for all health determinants combined, including placing in the top five for a high rate of dental visits, a high percentage of volunteerism, a high percentage of quality nursing home beds, a low percentage of marginal food insecurity, a high percentage of prescription drug coverage, and ready availability of home health care workers. "We commissioned this report to understand and identify ways to improve seniors' health because Americans are living longer and the senior population will double in size over the next 25 years," said Reed Tuckson, M.D., senior medical advisor to United Health Foundation. "It's time to shift our focus from how long Americans are living, to how well we're living," Tuckson said. "We want this report to encourage seniors and the people in their lives to be more active, to talk about end-of-life plans and to live the best lives we all can." *The "healthiest state" runner-up is Hawaii, followed by New Hampshire, Vermont and Massachusetts. Mississippi was tagged as the least healthy state for Americans 65 and up, followed by Louisiana, Kentucky, Oklahoma and Arkansas.* The report notes that many challenges face older Americans, with more than one quarter of seniors obese and 28 percent physically inactive. "Chronic illnesses such as obesity, diabetes and heart disease not only affect seniors' overall health but place pressure on families, caregivers and our health care system," said Tuckson. "These challenges will only intensify as the senior population continues to grow. It's critical that we work together -- individuals, families, communities, states and the health care system -- to develop solutions that address chronic illness among seniors and lay the groundwork for improved health for generations to come." http://t.money.msn.com/retirement/the-healthiest-states-for-retirement ___ http://www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com All posts are the result of individual contributors and as such, those individuals are responsible for the content of the post. Here are the prices for some of the more significant things: $46 for the radiator ($10 core which I cannot get back) $17 each for headlight switch, pre-glow relay $20 for the engine wiring harness $7 each for the metal fuel lines, $42 total $20 for the tandem power steering pump $8 for the SLS hydraulic control valve $2 for small relays $5 for dash switches (hazard, antenna, interior light) So all told about $300 for Benz stuff. Re: [MBZ] OT iPhone battery cost?
Thanks Mitch, we may have escaped with just a little inconvenience, but I need to evaluate further. Bought some tools, watched a couple YouTube videos, printed out an iRevive screw chart, took it all apart and cleaned/rinsed/soaked liberally with isopropyl alcohol, scrubbed off the two corrosion spots (one at battery connection, one at what I think is the screen connection), dried with a blow drier and put it all back together. The dock connection and charging cable also had a little green corrosion going on, so a little Deoxit there did the trick. Hurray!!! The phone seems to be charging, gives the battery charging symbol when plugged in, but very faint like the screen is not getting any back-light. I'll let it charge a bit, then try to turn on and access via USB cable to PC. At a minimum, getting all my wife's contacts off the phone would be huge. I recently downloaded/saved all the pictures/videos (about a month ago) so not too much video record may have been lost. -Max ___ http://www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com All posts are the result of individual contributors and as such, those individuals are responsible for the content of the post. Re: [MBZ] OT - tile floors
I did this recently in my bathroom, which isn't that large but I think I ran through 2 bags of self leveling stuff over plywood. It might not have been 50lb bags though, but I think it pretty much filled a 5gal bucket. It did not seem to set up that fast, and mixing it with a drill mixer did not take too long if you pour a bit at a time of the powder into the water/mix. But doing 250sqft might take longer to do enough. Mine was fairly runny, which I guess is what makes it self-level. I put down the Kerdi stuff over the leveling using thinset, it is a plastic waffle-like sheet stuff that will provide a bit of give under the tile, which you also put down with thinset and a notched trowel, to keep it from cracking as things expand and contract and move. Not cheap stuff, but reportedly quite good for the purpose. THey sell it at Lowes. --R On 7/19/14 1:36 PM, OK Don via Mercedes wrote: We are trying to prepare the 250 sq. ft. concrete floor of what was once an auto shop (that repaired a few MB's - MB content) for 18" square ceramic tiles. Re: [MBZ] Branching out in the MB family
They don't seem to have the B-EV's here. The smart feels solid. Downpayment would be $3250 or so, $143.80/month for 36 mos, and Maryland will send you a credit for $2,200 ($125/kWh capacity * 17.6kWh...) that's stupidly cheap to rent/lease! MBUSA retains ownership of the battery and gets the $7500 federal tax credit. (You get the glider and "rent" the battery). If you opt NOT to go the rent-a-battery route (no battery assurance plus, then it's $3759 down and $370 a month...), but you get a $7500 tax credit from the Feds... The big difference is the RV at end of lease; $6695 for no-BAP, $13929 for BAP... Lease is based on 10k/yr/30k on lease, but there is a certain challenge associated with going more than 10k/yr with a car that gets 80 or so miles on a 8hr (240V)/16hr (120V) charge... Outright purchase is $25,750 and BAP adds $80/month... But where will EV tech be in 3 years, and will anyone want a 3yr old EV in 3yrs? I have no idea how rough your floor is, however I've done some pretty rough floors in the past. I always used a straight edge to identify high and low spots and troweled on the material. A good straight 2X4 will work nicely to establish the "new smooth floor height". A round corner trowel 24 inches long with a good handle should float the material smooth. Seems to me you are trying to poor an entire new cap, which isn't what the material you are using is made for, from my experience. When you lay the tile, use a notch trowel with deep enough notches [ I prefer square notch pattern] so that you seat the tile for height as you lay them [use the plastic "X" spacers for good edge distance also] . Should end up with a nice level floor that way after grout. Of course, keep pain meds handy for following day after laying tile.. ;)) On Sat, Jul 19, 2014 at 11:59 AM, Craig via Mercedes wrote: > On Sat, 19 Jul 2014 12:36:26 -0500 OK Don via Mercedes > wrote: > > > The instructions I read/watched all used a ½" electric drill to mix the > > 50 lb. bag of cement like stuff into 5 qts/liters of water. > > That's how the guy who put our tile in did it. > > > > I literally burnt up the Harbor Freight ½" drill on the fifth bag, > > switched to an old fixed speed 3/8th " drill, pulsing it to finish. > > Oops. Oh yeah, I missed this part about the ED... I've driven one briefly... not long enough to form an opinion. Have you considered the new B class EV? I've drive that much more... very nice car. It has the benefits of a back seat, storage space, and it goes like hell. I was really impressed. I forget the calculations exactly, but I determined my commute would cost a fraction of what it normally would with a gas car. My commute is 45 miles each way... a charger on each end means lots of flexibility and no range concerns. [MBZ] OT - tile floors
We are trying to prepare the 250 sq. ft. concrete floor of what was once an auto shop (that repaired a few MB's - MB content) for 18" square ceramic tiles. The concrete is not all that level or smooth. We poured eight bags of "self leveling underlayment" on it and improved some areas, made others worse. The instructions I read/watched all used a ½" electric drill to mix the 50 lb. bag of cement like stuff into 5 qts/liters of water. I literally burnt up the Harbor Freight ½" drill on the fifth bag, switched to an old fixed speed 3/8th " drill, pulsing it to finish. I think we weren't able to keep mixing and pouring fast enough to keep up with the drying of the previous pour. I'm considering using our home owner sized cement mixer, but wondered who has BTDT, and been successful? Also, this cement mixer has a 24" long barrel that is 19" at the base and 16" at the throat. How many bags of sakrete should it be able to mix at once? If two 80 lb bags, should I be able to mix three 50 lb bags of "self leveling underlayment" at once??? ___ http://www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com All posts are the result of individual contributors and as such, those individuals are responsible for the content of the post.
