[MBZ] FP-K22MW21 Lift pump

2016-06-06 Thread Curley McLain via Mercedes
Looks like an Isnoozu lift pump will fit on the IP and could be
adapted. I'd need a couple of banjo fittings. I should have the banjo
fittings on unused engines.

eBay item number:161658558971

Maybe someone with access to an Isuzu could measure the mounting holes
and compare to an OM616 or 617 NA. I don't know if a 617 turbo has the
same mounting, but I'd guess it is still the same.

[MBZ] FP-K22MW21 pump kit

2016-06-06 Thread Curley McLain via Mercedes
THe OM616/617NA transfer pump (lift pump) is Bosch FP-K22MW2 or ten
digit 2 445 103 010. MB never did provide a kit in the USA, and I don't
now if Bosch ever did. I am thinking in the RTW, that a kit may be
available. has anyone ever seen a kit or have foreign contacts to
inquire about a kit for the pump?

Nothing turns up on fleabay except a pump body. That is the one part I
don't need.

The good news is that I took the 240D out tonight for a 2 mile run, and
now it runs fine. The apparent warning I had, but was unable to
attribute to any cause, is that at idle, especially when cold, the
engine would randomly miss at idle. The pump seemed to function
adequately at higher RPM, as on last thursday I ran it probably 60 miles
or so at highway speeds. It is the opposite of a obstructed filter, or
air leak which show up first at high speed or starting.

I was able to pump up fuel easily with the hand primer. It filled the
hose to the filter and I bled the air out there, then tightened the new
banjo fitting. I have been hoarding new clear fuel lines since 1999. I
put the one from the transfer pump to the filter on with the used pump.
Unfortunately the hand primer leaks when used. THe original was ok I
think.I may change that some day.

Has anyone seen exploded drawings of the pump or parts drawings? I'd
still like to figure out how they are made to see if I can repair the
old ones.

We have had pretty significant rain most of the day, forecast is for it
to pass over my vast estate late tonight/early morning. Main problem is
that we will have very high tides tonight and tomorrow so Charleston
will probably be fairly flooded and there will be beach erosion. No
wind here now, will see if that picks up later. Tide was very high
around noon, night tide is usually even higher, but there had not yet

Subject: [MBZ] OT: Mexicans

It has long seemed to me that there is no fundamental reason for Mexico to
be less prosperous than the US. Mexicans are educated, at least to the
point they are literate. They are hard-working. They have a strong family
identity. They have great natural resources. They have a large country
with a mild climate. And they have access to both Atlantic and Pacific
ports.

So why is Mexico so poor and crime ridden that folks flock to the US for
jobs and safety?

This is more than an idle question if we don't want the US to become Mexico.

Re: [MBZ] OT: Mexicans

2016-06-06 Thread Curley McLain via Mercedes
IN SHORT, MEXICO IS A SYSTEM OF FEUDAL LORDS. (Complicated by friction
between the political lords and the drug lord...when there is a difference.)

Joel Cairo via Mercedes
June 6, 2016 at 4:52 PMvia Postbox

I asked my niece that question in reference to SA countries, but
Mexico is similar enough. She was the resident expert on certain
political and economic matters in a certain SA country for A
Government Agency, so was probably as knowledgeable about such things
as anyone could be. She has a degree from Georgetown in International
Relations, and a fair amount of training. She has briefed presidents
directly/personally on these matters.

She thought about it a bit and attributed it to the effects of
colonialism, in that the ruling classes of most LA countries are the
descendants of the yurpeens, the Spanish specifically, and mostly
white/mestizo not native and their attitudes towards the indigenos is
not wildly different from colonial times 500 years ago. That sorta
made sense -- they have their status and wealth and really don't care
that much about the rest. In places where indigenos do get elected (I
think Hugo in Venezuela and the guy in Bolivia?) they tend to go
overboard the other way with the predictable results -- it gets even
worse.

Interestingly, we were just in Peru and the electioneering was going
big time for the election yesterday. They started out with something
like 30 candidates, it got winnowed down to 2, Fujimori and Kuczinski
(sp?), both right-center candidates and obviously neither has an
indigeno name, not even a Spanish name. I'm still not sure which got
elected as last I heard it was 50.5-49.5 for K. In any case, Peru has
been fairly right of center, and their economy has been going pretty
well, and from what I saw it did not have the really bad poverty you
see in Mexico and some other countries, though most people would not
be wealthy by any means. The Fujimori candidate is the daughter of a
former president, now in prison, who went a bit too far after
eradicating the communist Shining Path uprising, which people are
still grateful for though a few remain back in the mountains and in
the forests causing trouble.

Some countries are starting to get their acts organized though
Argentina keeps regressing every 10-15yr or so. Chile is doing well,
as I think is Colombia, mostly, after the bad times with the drug
trade. Brazil is starting to slow down after some good growth. Costa
Rica and Panama are doing pretty well. Ecuador could but their idiot
presidente keeps trying to screw things up with socialismo to appeal
to the lower classes. It seems that the ones doing well adopt some
US-style reforms and the leaders take some interest in the general
welfare and actually try to improve things. Not so much in Mexico.

It has long seemed to me that there is no fundamental reason for Mexico to
be less prosperous than the US. Mexicans are educated, at least to the
point they are literate. They are hard-working. They have a strong family
identity. They have great natural resources. They have a large country
with a mild climate. And they have access to both Atlantic and Pacific
ports.

So why is Mexico so poor and crime ridden that folks flock to the US for
jobs and safety?

This is more than an idle question if we don't want the US to become
Mexico.

Re: [MBZ] OT: Mexicans

2016-06-06 Thread Joel Cairo via Mercedes
I asked my niece that question in reference to SA countries, but Mexico
is similar enough. She was the resident expert on certain political and
economic matters in a certain SA country for A Government Agency, so was
probably as knowledgeable about such things as anyone could be. She has
a degree from Georgetown in International Relations, and a fair amount
of training. She has briefed presidents directly/personally on these
matters.

That sorta made
sense -- they have their status and wealth and really don't care that
much about the rest. In places where indigenos do get elected (I think
Hugo in Venezuela and the guy in Bolivia?) they tend to go overboard the
other way with the predictable results -- it gets even worse.

Interestingly, we were just in Peru and the electioneering was going big
time for the election yesterday. They started out with something like
30 candidates, it got winnowed down to 2, Fujimori and Kuczinski (sp?),
both right-center candidates and obviously neither has an indigeno name,
not even a Spanish name. I'm still not sure which got elected as last I
heard it was 50.5-49.5 for K. In any case, Peru has been fairly right
of center, and their economy has been going pretty well, and from what I
saw it did not have the really bad poverty you see in Mexico and some
other countries, though most people would not be wealthy by any means.
The Fujimori candidate is the daughter of a former president, now in

Realistically a site that is just using Java menus should not have this
problem. What is the actual URL for posting a new thread from the website?
I've not seen it before. However, I know I have to go through this with all
my Cisco gear to run the Java built ASDM software. The software refuses to
run if I haven't added the certificate from the ASA to the control panel.
Didn't use to be this way, but every new revision of Java gets tighter
security B.S. because of all the backdoor software running rampant on the
Net.

On another note.. I have never been able to post a new thread directly

from

the www.oakiebenz.com site... Finally discovered that Java security has
the
menu items that would allow that blocked.

Anyone of the computer guru's here "splain" how I can reconfigure to

post ?

I would be ever so grateful.

Thanks heaps for your response.. I'm "computer challenged" in PC speak.. so
all direction gladly accepted.

The issue "seems to be" that the site address is http://.www.oakiebenz.com
which Java will not accept because it is not "https" thus, in Java wisdom
not a secure site and verboten..

Because Java will not allow the site to fully open, all the "click here"
boxes on the opening page remain empty, or non responsive.. thus, I'm
blocked from access to them.. what ever they are.. All I get is the open
page welcoming me to OakieBenz with a nice picture of a Merc..

Stumped and Stupid... seems to about cover it.. ;))

I miss fall the most when it comes to seasons. There is no fall in Florida, just a rather quick change from hotter than HELL to quite nice and comfortable. The winter months here are wonderful, but I do miss the change of seasons…

East coast/south Florida climate is very different from the west coast. West
Palm and environs is far more tropical. Our summers are typically high 80s/low
90s with humidity, cooling off in the evenings from the sea breeze. October to
April is really nice, with temps in the 70s and low humidity, like early fall
in the north.

It’s like anyplace else I’ve lived (except SFO) where during extreme seasons
like summer or winter you just dress for it and stay in conditioned spaces.

I've encountered far worse storms in the Midwest. I don't expect
this will be more than a passing nuisance.

I think the major success our gummint is giving us today is that the VA

Re: [MBZ] Today with the W126

2016-06-06 Thread Dan Penoff via Mercedes
Thanks!

I got the clear corner lights from a buddy on Benzworld. They’re Depo brand
from Europe. I use the “bronze” bulbs in them so they show yellow for both
running and turn signals but appear as clear bulbs when off so you don’t get
the “egg yoke” look you would otherwise have with yellow bulbs.

I’m not 100% with the clear corners, but my stock yellow corners were pretty
beat up and I wanted to replace them. When I was offered a set of new clear
corners for $25 I decided I could live with them for now.

Re: [MBZ] OT: I'm back!

2016-06-06 Thread Curt Raymond via Mercedes
Yeah we used the 1 wire Delco, its pretty well hidden under the hood. The
wiring loom is all hidden in weaved tube that hides it pretty good. The only
giveaway for now is the resistor bank that provides 6v to the coil. I bought a
12v coil but figured I'd get it running with the old coil to try to not change
too many things at once...
Ours has an inline gizmo so no light to excite the alternator, sano...

waytago!  for the 12v conversion.  I did that last year on my H, after much
soul searching about keeping it original.  Did you use the small Japanee
alternator that fits under the hood?  With period wiring and wire loom, it
still looks original except for the new red light on the control panel with the
headllight switch.  it is an idiot light that doubles as the exciter circuit
for the alt.  Same as on most cars and on my BMW R75/5.  The ammeter is still
in place and functional.

For last year's tractor ride, the H got lots of work before and after the ride.
For this year, it is getting an umbrella for operator comfort.

Curt Raymond via Mercedes June 5, 2016 at 11:10 AM via Postbox Spent the
last two weeks at camp in Maine where my cell phone didn't have reception,
though strangely Angie's did and we're on the same carrier...
Anyway some highlights:'52 Farmall Super M repairs, valve cover gasket,
finalized 12v conversion, replaced starter, got 2 of 3 lights working,
installed the cleaned and sealed gas tank, ruined sediment bowl, replaced same,
replaced leaking valve core, applied teflon tape to valve stem cap when the
replaced valve core wouldn't seal. Plowed and harrowed about 1/8 acre for
planting peas, mowed about 10 acres.
Transplanted 20 trees from random spots around the farm into our tree
plantation.
Tried to convinced Dad to buy a new diesel New Holland tractor, might be nearly
there.
Trimmed and thinned trees.
The starter on the Super M is the prime story of the trip, the starter failed
last year and dad bought a replacement, that lasted about 3 starts until it
totally locked up. He finally took it apart and realized that when the
"rebuilder" went through it they'd used Locktite on the INSIDE of the bushing
on the main shaft instead of the outside. Fortunately they used regular
strength so it came off with a little heat. They musta used a lot, it came off
in a sheet. Starter works slick now with the 12v conversion, it really spins
the engine over fast, makes for easy starts.
Anyway two weeks let me get caught up some on a lot of the projects that had
gotten ahead of me but I could have even used another couple weeks. I keep
telling my boss that one of these trips I'm not going to come back...
Oh we also got a logger to come in and start taking trees. Our neighbor had a
bunch of trees cut so the loggers got to just keep on rolling. We figure
they're going to take something like 200 cords. Should mostly pay for the
tractor mentioned above but we'll need another building to put it in. Looking
at maybe a quonset hut in the size of a 2 car garage...

Agreed. We got a big rain a coupla weeks ago while I was gone, that one
coming in from the east. No wind though. Looks like this one will go
right over our vast estate, so I'm guessing some more good rain.
Farmers probably won't be too happy with too much though. But
everything is very lush and green here, like being in a tropical rain
forest. High surf advisories though, could be fun to go over to the
beach tomorrow.

Dan is throwing in the towel already?

Yeah, pretty much anything rejected by Martha is better than the best car in my
fleet, so if I had the means, I'd also consider that purchase.

Just returned from a trip up to Norfolk, over to Anderson SC, and back down to
Chucktown, all driving my '95 sedan. Mostly a very pleasant trip, but that car
is a little under powered hauling three people and a trunk full of luggage.
This morning I drove The White Whale to work, what a beast. The injection pump
from a 3.5 liter engine has transformed it into a hot rod, compared to the '95.

Re: [MBZ] Don't these things usually sell for a lot more than this?

2016-06-06 Thread Ed Booher via Mercedes
Making the assumption of Windows here. Java has a "Control Panel." If you
hit the "Windows Key" or click the Start menu then type Java, one of the
options should be "Configure Java." Once you have that control panel open,
under the Security tab there is an Exception Site List. Sometimes adding
the site to this list will help. If the site is secure (HTTPS / SSL) then
you will need to open the site, and download a copy of the sites public
certificate. Below the Exception Site List there is a "Manage Certificates"
button. Click this button, set the drop down to "Secure Site" and Import
the site certificate.

Didn't use to be this way, but every new revision of Java gets tighter
security B.S. because of all the backdoor software running rampant on the
Net.
