Re: [MBZ] OT: How to get screwed out of the cash value in your Whole Life insurance policy
I'm maintaining my portfolio at 70% stocks, the rest in short term bonds and cash. Every year or so I have to rebalance (sell high, buy low) to keep that ratio. If the crash comes, I'll go 100% stocks when they ring the bell at market bottom, ride it all the way back up. -- Max Dillon Charleston SC '87 300TD '95 E300 On August 14, 2016 6:50:17 PM EDT, Scott Ritchey via Mercedes wrote: >This is largely a consequence of FED (read Administration) policy to >try to >stimulate the economy through artificially low (like zero) interest >rates. >But this is small potatoes compared to the many seniors who saved >responsibly all their lives but now can't live on the (near zero) >revenue >from that investment. Re: [MBZ] OT: How to get screwed out of the cash value in your Whole Life insurance policy
This is largely a consequence of FED (read Administration) policy to try to stimulate the economy through artificially low (like zero) interest rates. But this is small potatoes compared to the many seniors who saved responsibly all their lives but now can't live on the (near zero) revenue from that investment. When you are old and close to liquidating your investment you don't want to be invested in a volatile market. At the same time, younger folks and nearly all commercial investors have their money in the market (vs bonds, etc.) which has driving the market artificially high. It will be interesting to see if a soft landing can be achieved or of the "head-in-the sand" approach will continue, making the inevitable correction worse. What is the date code on them? In the world of motorcycles, sport bike tires are supposed to be changed every two years, regardless of tread depth. Touring and cruiser bike tires should be renewed after four years. The tires get progressively harder as they age. I am going to assume that car tires age similarly. [MBZ] Pirelli tires might be crap
So I have this set of Pirelli P7s on my 98 e300 that have maybe 15-20k miles on them now. These are 70k mile tires. Still have plenty of tread. Friday driving back home we had a little light rain and the roads were wet. I had an occasion going around a curve at about 30 and the rear ended started to try and slide. Also was coming to a stop and abs started kicking in. These always had good traction even in a downpour. So it seems after 20k their traction has gone to hell. I went to far as to pull over and make sure I did not have a low tire in the back. I should have been more clear. The line from the compressor to the AC radiator was hot; hotter than I could touch continuously. The top few tubes in the radiator were warm. Everything else was ambient. I'm thinking about pulling the under-dash panel and giving the TXV a few taps (in case it is stuck). The car is still 100% R12 and I don't have a recovery system so I'll probably need to go to a pro for any repair that involves replacing parts. > -Original Message- > From: Mercedes [mailto:mercedes-boun...@okiebenz.com] On Behalf Of Mitch > Haley via Mercedes > Sent: Sunday, August 14, 2016 9:28 AM > To: Mercedes Discussion List > Cc: Mitch Haley > Subject: Re: [MBZ] 1982 300SD AC Question > > Ambient could mean no or little flow, > cold (refrigerated) means pressure drop and boiling refrigerant. > > ___ > http://www.okiebenz.com > > To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ > > To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: > http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com ___ http://www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com

Thanks. I'll try the gauges (it was getting dark so I had to quit last evening). I had the impression that there was no flow through the system. Maybe the dryer is plugged? [MBZ] OT: How to get screwed out of the cash value in your Whole Life insurance policy
http://www.nytimes.com/2016/08/14/business/why-some-life-insurance-premiums-are-skyrocketing.html The NY Times describes the latest scam by insurance companies to drain policies of built up cash values and then raising rates on all such policies claiming there are insufficient funds to pay benefits. The strategy seems to have been pioneered by European Insurance companies that have gained control of US insurance companies: 1. Convince state regulators that the policies are overfunded. They do this by moving liabilities for future payouts to off-balance-sheet companies that are not subject to state regulation. 2. For some reason state regulators sign off on this and authorize excess funds to be paid out to insurance company shareholders (the European parent company) as an extra-ordinary dividends, in some cases over $2 billion. 3. Some time later convince state regulators that the policies are now underfunded because the off-balance-sheet companies defaulted and that policy premiums need to be raised by 200-300%. 4. State regulators approve the 200-300% premium increases. 5. Policyholders file class-action lawsuits but have trouble prevailing since state regulators signed off at each stage that the actions of the insurance company were fiscally sound and hence any subsequent premium increase could not have been anticipated. Note that this scam can only happen with life insurance and LTC policies that build up future benefits using some kind of cash accumulation. Straight insurance or term life insurance policyholders cannot be scammed in this way since there is no cash accumulation going on.
