I thought copper wire would be too soft, and the welding rod was closer . .
.
It is copper coated (just barely).

The farm machinery doesn't use glow plugs.

Ether and glow plugs are a BAD IDEA!! Keep them apart!

If you feel you must use ether, unplug the glow plugs first.

Kaleb,
What are you doing with a cheap ($400) garbage disposal? Should be at
least twice that and probably a Bosch to match the DW. I don't know if
I'm just lucky or what but my disposal and DW are still going since
1999 when I built my house. And the DW is a Maytag, but I don't
remember the disposal, GE maybe?
Now to the serious side, can't you just put in some drano or some
sort, after all, it cleans hair clogs in the other drain lines?

Good luck and best wishes,
Roger

I left the SDL with #1 boy so he could get to work while I drove his jeep back.
ND mornings are dang cold. He said it was not happy, but did light off at
-13f after four glows. Might have been winter diesel, but the oil was standard
15-50, and no additives to the tank to compensate for gelling.

[MBZ] Hallucination Express

2017-03-02 Thread clay via Mercedes
List may be aware that #1 boy screwed up his W140 and SWMBA conned him into
getting a 06 jeep. Kid drove over from ND to visit mid Feb and when he tried
to go home, his cheep threw all manner of codes and CEL.

The only viable way to get him back to where he needed was to drive. My w220
is a turd and broken, so that was not an option. Not going to be able to drive
the R107, and the w126 SD was not registered or insured. That left the SDL.
Poiei was viewed by many here as a less than viable option to do a 1200 mile
trip within 22 hours. I thought she was the only option.

We had to get his guns and some stuff out of the cherokee and we took off. I
pulled the first shift. We left 2/22 at 1800 hrs out of Seattle and hit
Spokane for a fill up. The Idaho passes were a bear, as was the first MT pass.
Snow and snot in the dark. We did 12 hours of blasting along in the dark,
and got to ND a bit past lunch. I think we were doing at least 550 per tank.

I played visiting dad for less than 48 hours before taking the Amtrak back to
SEA. That was a disaster, as the train broke down in Spokane over night. By
the time I got back to SEA, I was hallucinating and it was 1700 Sunday. Train
left ND at 1050 Saturday. The chickens were pissed at me for abandoning them
for five days.

The Chrysler dealer fixed the jeep Saturday, and I really wanted to get it out
of town and get a drivable car back home. Plan was to leave SEA with it as
early Monday as I could, but the surprise snow slowed me down. I was able to
register the ’82 SD, grab the cluster out of the s430 from my indy to send to
Beckmann to rebuild, and pick up the jeep. That would have been a noon
departure, but a tanker rolled over on I-5 at I-90 and closed the region down
for hours. I was able to get back roads onto I-90 and picked up my older
cousin as co-pilot just short of Spokane.

We drove through Hell through Idaho and almost to Butte. Close to white out
conditions and sloppy slush. Once over the Continental Divide it got better.
WE pulled into Williston before 1100 local time, On the drive out, my shoes
went through an entropy zone and the soles dissolved. It was like walking
around with lace up flip flops or a duck stuck in the mud. I scored some
cheep chinee shoo and tossed our overnight bags from the jeep into Polei. Time
enough to piddle and we struck out on the freeway home.

Weather reports were calling for snow west of the Rockies. Luck was with us
and we had dry roads and sunshine.

On the trip out, the SDL had working blinkers, speedo, lights. On the return
trip, the speedo was working, but the blinkers were not, and the engine began
eating oil. I am not sure how we made it out there with no oil loss, but I
was adding quarts every few hundred miles. Granted speeds were up in the
80-90 mph range and going up hills and passes. I figured it was the high
speed and oil was not getting back to the pan. A bunch more miles and I
thought it might be the 730 cap I put on instead of the black plastic that
creates a near vacuum seal. It could be cooking out the top. When I pulled
in to fuel up, I noticed black oil drops. That would mean the patch on the pan
is failing. I will need to remove the epoxy glop and put a better patch on.

The drivers were doing fine until we got to Butte. No fuel, just piddle stop
and driver swap. Nobody had been getting decent naps either to ND or in the
six hours out. I was driving that stretch and 30 miles out of Missoula I was
less than spectacular. Cousin noticed and took over. He got us to the fuel
stop, got us giant coffee plasma to wake us up and I got us to Idaho. Cousin
did the rest of the drive and got us to his place at 0200 Wednesday. The last
hour was more hallucinations. Old guys should not drive extended periods with
no rest.

I put a few hours asleep and got up at 0930 for some breakfast and catching up
with family. I got back on the road by 1100 and back to SEA by 1520. I got
the chickens fed and watered, crawled into bed and woke up 3/2 at 1500.

So when I redid the plumbing under the kitchen since with the install of the
Bosch dishwasher i installed the biggest most powerful garbage disposal I could
find that also supposedly self clears jams. It can chop up anything, put bones
down it, will chop them up no problem. For some unknown and unexplained reason

That led to

https://www.theregister.co.uk/2017/03/01/aws_s3_outage/

which said, among other things,

Tuesday's Amazon Web Services mega-outage knocked offline not only
websites big and small, by yanking away their backend storage,
but also knackered apps and Internet of Things gadgets relying on
the technology.

In fact, the five-hour breakdown was so bad, Amazon couldn't even
update its own AWS status dashboard: its red warning icons were
stranded, hosted on the broken-down side of the cloud.

...

Other IoT devices were also impacted and caused some rather
surreal scenarios for their owners. We're told that
cloud-connected lightbulbs, thermostats, and similar gear,
stopped working properly as their backends fell over.

Good thinking, but the cabin door might be too small to get the coffin on the
plane, and you know there will always be some passengers who freak out because
there might be a terrorist inside.
We could get in the coffin and check it as luggage, but I understand it gets
pretty cold in the bottom of those airliners.
Finally I remembered IKEA which was bound to have a coffin kit for us DIYers,
and here it is:

IKEA to Launch “Ready to Assemble” Casket.

"The Swedish multi-national furniture company – IKEA claims to offer huge
savings to the average cost of a family funeral with the introduction of a new
plywood flat pack coffin. Their new self-assembly coffin arrives in 12 ‘ready
to assemble’ components and can easily be assembled in ‘less than 1 hour’ by
bereaving relatives.

‘I found it really helped to take my mind off matters’ said grieving Malcolm
Baker, 25 (grandson of the deceased). ‘I felt tearful when I began opening the
flat pack packaging and slowly started to work out what needed to be done.
But once I got started, by the second hour I was shouting and swearing and
kicking the tools around the living room. ‘When the coffin was eventually
placed into the ground, it broke into pieces and the relatives started throwing
clods of dirt at me for doing such a poor job of assembly.’

However, other families welcome the massive financial saving that the flat pack
coffin delivers. ‘We hoped to save money buying a casket for our grandfather
because he wasn’t liked much by the family’ said Nellie Williams, 32 from
Cardiff. ‘We made him assemble the coffin himself before he died. It actually
took him 2.5 days. On reflection though, we think it may have been what made
him croak.'

Floor joists replaced, all ceramic tile removed and pergo installed. Was
at the house till 11pm last night finishing it up. Pergo is not hard to
install just requires some thinking when have to meet up and different
angles etc, especially since this is my first time doing it and with only
basic wood working tools such as tape measure and table saw and my HF
vibrating tool which I think we have have gotten it close to worn out. It
is oozing all sorts of great out of the tip which I would not think it

If you have an AC leak detector / sniffer, it should also detect a natural
gas leak. Test my theory (at a known leak) and get busy looking for leaks.

Bill for this vacant house was only about $50 a month less than the house we live in which is total electric. Around $120 for gas for an empty house. The bill for this house running heat pump during the coldest part of winter so far was about $180. So the 2nd month I turned off the furnace completely so the only thing running is water heater on low, that bill was only about 5-6 less. I think the gas company has a con job going on.

Exactly Randy!!! I am not the kind of guy to screw up my sweet life, which
happens to be really awesome right now, with the possibility of "pretend"
that is actually fraud hahaha!

Re: [MBZ] Parts car for Kyle!

2017-03-02 Thread Kyle Arola via Mercedes
I told the seller that if he got a Florida title that I would come and
check out the car with intent to make an offer, but without the FL title, I
was going to pass. All I can do about it as I don't want to eat a bowl of
"should have had a Florida title" BS... I really don't "need" a parts car,
yet, but am just planning for the future when they are even more scarce.

If anyone has a parts wagon in their area that is worth looking at, let me
know. Diamond blue, with Blue interior preferred, but not necessarily
required. IF it is awesome enough, I certainly would have it shipped to
me. Clear title a must! hahaha!

Good idea!

I like the option of having your funeral before you die. Send out a death
notice to your friends and enemies. Everybody comes. You're lying in the casket
with the lid slightly open for air. The preacher talks about all your good
qualities and sends your spirit on its way. A hymn is sung and the service is
over.
Then you very slowly push up the creaking lid of the casket and sit up with a
smile on your face which has been painted a deathly white. Your friends will
not be surprised since they already know you're a joker, but some of your
enemies will collapse in fear and loathing and the funeral home will get more
business.
Then everyone goes off to a pre-arranged feast at a bar-restaurant where you'll
hear many drunken eulogies from your friends while your enemies skulk in the
corner.
Why shouldn't the person who is the object of these festivities enjoy them as
well? It's never made much sense to me.

Gerry...who has dealt with many ex-people in hospital morgues and had a few die
while drawing their blood.
How did we get on this topic? Sheesh!
