Re: [MBZ] OT Winders question

2018-03-30 Thread Russ Williams via Mercedes

Windoze 8 doesn't have a Program List like XP - 7 or10.
There is an add-on  Start8 that will add make the Windoze 8 Start Button
look

like XP, 7, 10.
Win Key+E will open File Explorer i.e. My Computer
Win Key+R will open the Run Box
Win Key+D will Minimize an Open Window to the Task Bar
Win Key+ Pause will open System
Alt Key will show the Menu Bar in Most Windows Programs
Alt Key + F4 will close an Open Window if the Desktop is showing it will
bring up

the Shutdown Menu.

and you can use "View > Toolbar > Menu" to make it stay.

Put it in a small plastic bag when you take it apart so if stuff goes
flying it is contained.  If you take it apart carefully you won't get
stuff flying around, there are some little springs in there about 1/4"
long so they don't have much travel but will boing out if you aren't
careful.  Just pry the cover off, there are some little rockers and such
in there that the springs push on.  I'll send you some pics off list

2018-03-30 Thread Dan Penoff via Mercedes
Here’s an interesting Windows shortcut I just learned:

If you type a domain name in the address field of a browser, say “CNN”, and
then press “Enter” and “CTRL” at the same time, it will complete the URL making
it “www.CNN.com”.

Nifty.

Works on Macs, too. “Enter” and “⌘”.

Dunno. The other day Angie had finally had enough of Winders 10 and its
incessant "Don't Turn off your Computer" update nonsense. Its got Lubuntu Linux
now and I couldn't be happier.
Lubuntu is a lightweight distribution which works well on older hardware plus
since its in the Ubuntu family its easy to use, finds and supports most
hardware and the specialty keys on the laptop.
It must be terribly annoying when you're about to get on a plane or something
and Windows has to update "Right now".

Re: [MBZ] For MG

2018-03-30 Thread MG via Mercedes
I was wrong. Just looked it all up and there is one still left in
the company as a floating museum. They had 4 engines coupled to
each screw so 8 engines all together and they were two stroke
Detroits with blowers so no wonder they sounded so good.

I seem to remember the engineer saying that they run 4. That's
probably why 4 engines stick in my mind.

the New York Circle liners that carried tourists around the city. I
spent most of the ride in the engine room talking with the guys down
there and listening to the engines. This was a 12th grade school trip.
Drove the teachers crazy because they couldn't find me. Probably long
gone by now.

The windshield washers are not currently working and the reservoir is
leaking.[that will cost $3k to replace the washer flood bottle]

Hi, in the driving video, Is that the break fluid light that is lit on
the dashboard?  [the breaks is braked]

Does it come with the moutons included?  [No but I'll throw in some
Poupons, grey of course]

Andrew would need a parrot to ride on his shoulder in his gadabouts DC,
then everyone would think he is some rich Potentate or the colonial
dictator of some small African country.  He would also need a driver
which would cost him even more as he would have to pay a Living Wage and
all the benefits and such.

I was talking with this guy at C&C last week who had the 1914 Roller, it
was WAY cool.  I mentioned I had seen this other one last year, it was a
white roadster streamliner sort of thing from the 30s or so, and he said
that was his too!  Not sure what disease this guy has, but he was pretty
cool and very friendly.

2018-03-30 Thread Dan--- via Mercedes
George of Leatherique fame was a RR person for some years. He told me at length
on several occasions about the nightmares involved in maintaining these cars,
especially the difficulty and expense of sourcing parts.

I heard enough from him that convinced me I would never own one. I’m just into
self-abuse to that extreme.
