Reminds me I need to replace the regulator and motor on the TE driver's door 
this weekend.  I'm getting tired of opening the door to badge in at work, and 
when it warms up, I'll need to be able to open that window so I don't fry -- 
KILMA relay needs work too!

[MBZ] Today’s 240D accomplishment

I’ve been driving my 240D with a nonfunctional driver’s side window since the 
fall. Manual window regulator broke and glass separated from the rubber lined 
channel which is bolted to regulator. The window would therefore no longer hold 
in place so with the door card removed, I wedged some wooden shims between the 
glass and metal slot in the door frame to keep it from sliding down. For 
further security, I duct taped the glass to the door frame. The result was 
pretty “ghetto”! I felt like a first class citizen opening a duct taped covered 
door in order to pay the toll booth operators, but hey, Maine is pretty redneck 
so I guess shouldn’t have been that embarrassed!

The channel in which the bottom of window sat was heavily rusted so I removed 
the rubber inner channel, scraped and sanded off the loose rust and painted it 
with miracle paint. I then replaced the regulator with a new one purchased from 
crock auto, slid the rubber back onto the bottom of the window, slid it into 
the newly painted channel and bolted it to the regulator. Works perfectly!

Probably ok.   I used to get chinee ones from the local Auto Electric 
before he  shut down.  They seemed to last at least as long as  the ones 
in the Gen U Wine Bosch box.

The twisted H sonata is a good car.   So good it is called the Corean 
Caddylac.  Every other twisted H model is an awful POS.  (Based on 
experience driving repos and trade ins through the auto auction)

1- IMO a VR is not the place to go really cheap.

2- If you are to remove that bolt, would it be possible to replace with 
something more tool friendly?

3- Don't some FLAPS give a full refund (as in a free tool loan) on tools? So 
perhaps a step 3 followed by a step 2??

I hadn't seen that, but did figure out this morning that VRs of unknown origins 
might result in unknown voltages. So now, I need to remove the alternator and 
ascertain that it's a Bosch, and then find myself a Bosch/Hella/similar VR to 
put in it. 

The manual I found says I need to use an external torx wrench on the tensioner 
pulley bolt to swing the tensioner to the left and remove the belt. 
Looking at the tensioner on my ML, I see an internal security torx bolt of 
fairly large (T-50?) proportions. Why would anyone specify a security fastener 
for that application, forcing me to invest in some ridiculously large torx bits 
with holes in them? The USA brands like to make it as easy as possible to 
remove tension from the serpentine belt, they don't put security fasteners in 
place to prevent non-dealer belt replacement.

unfortunately that cat has left the bag, but Abigail is just starting to 
get wound up on this stuff, I talked to her yesterday for about an hour, 
she ain't gonna let up and there is a lot more to come.  We had about 
100 p*$$ed off people at a meeting Tuesday night, kept the Mayor there 
for 3 hours, he got both ears full. It is starting to sink in it seems, 
slowly.  And lawyers, we got lawyers...


BTW, my buddy Phil who was mentioned in the article, helped make this 
film that is really nice (he's in it briefly).  Y'all might like to 
watch it on the Flix.  If you have any larger interest they will do 
screenings at schools and other venues.  He just left for Jamaica mon 
this morning for a coupla weeks to do some research.

I hadn't seen that, but did figure out this morning that VRs of unknown origins 
might result in unknown voltages. So now, I need to remove the alternator and 
ascertain that it's a Bosch, and then find myself a Bosch/Hella/similar VR to 
put in it. 

The manual I found says I need to use an external torx wrench on the tensioner 
pulley bolt to swing the tensioner to the left and remove the belt. 
Looking at the tensioner on my ML, I see an internal security torx bolt of 
fairly large (T-50?) proportions. Why would anyone specify a security fastener 
for that application, forcing me to invest in some ridiculously large torx bits 
with holes in them? The USA brands like to make it as easy as possible to 
remove tension from the serpentine belt, they don't put security fasteners in 
place to prevent non-dealer belt replacement.

Do property owners have no rights?

It seems to me that there are two issues: Bad roads, and flooding.  Both
can be addressed with money, the appropriate governmental body needs to
step up and get their pound of flesh from the property owners who seek to
develop the property.  The citizenry (that would be Floyd) needs to oversee
the goobers spending of said funds so that flooding impacts are minimized
and sufficient road improvements (and don't forget schools for the chiluns
and fire stations and police to keep all those new residents from "up
north" in line (after all they aren't from here)).

she loved it.  It was a nice car not $15k nice, but good luck.  She 
mentioned they might be thinking to sell it for some reason I don't 
recall.  So I guess they are.  I think she said they had bought it off 
some old guy in MtPlastic, up Max's way, so probably trying to flip it.

A lap belt won't keep you from being sucked out of the seat when a window blows 
out, it's happened before (DC-10) due to engine failure.

Cogent point is that the cowling is supposed to stay on and contain the flying 
bits, for several reasons, and in this instance, the cowling failed from a 
single blade failure, not a fan disintegration, which is also supposed to be 
contained if possible.

I noted that the cowling is composite, not a titanium ring as was earlier 
practice, not that I'm an engineer or anything.  I'd trust the titanium ring 
over composite for repeated impacts or severe vibration.

It's going to take some time to figure out why the blade failed, it's not a 
common these days, and not in that particular engine.

Age of the engine is an issue, it may be that the fans have a limited lifetime, 
something that has not been an issue before.  Longer and longer engine life 
will reveal failures related to repeated stress cycles older engine never lived 
long enough to develop!

[MBZ] Fairly Nice 123 FS on Mercedes W123 North America FB group

One pic shows some rust and it has pimpish wheels from a later model 

Have to admit it but this caf just sits and only driven once or twice a month. 
Posting here first for $1500. See pics for details. Tint, Euro lights, working 
factory radio and antenna, new tires with e430 wheels, no tips on seats, no 
cracks on dash, new battery and lots and lots to list. Comes with 4 keys. Inbox 
in interested. Located in Dallas, TX area but this car will drive to Florida 
and beyond. Did 70mph to Houston, 200+miles and she drove good.
