Thanks for that link. I saw that thread but had not read all of it until after
I saw it again in your post. It was most helpful. At the end of that thread
they talk about the 47D01U-843 board, which is the one I'm considering. It
costs a bit more but won't need a relay or other modifications, just some
configuring. The pinout is different from the stock Carrier board so I'm
thinking about making "gender bender" cables to go between with the stock
Carrier connectors and the new board to make it easy to stick the stock board
back in (warranty reasons).

Re: [MBZ] OT: Heat Pump Demand Defrost?

2019-01-17 Thread Scott Ritchey via Mercedes
If I had a conventional air handler I'd agree.
But my Unico air handler is a "high velocity" design that's supposed to output
higher temp air through 2 inch diameter ducts that mixes with room air. The
new heat pump is a 3 ton 14 SEER Carrier unit (very simple). The existing
(2005 vintage) air handler is rated at 3-3.5 tons and only the leaky coil (and
TXV) were replaced. I am at the low end of the spec CFM range but I am within
the spec air flow range. The blower speed is not adjustable but it has a
restrictor plate to throttle air flow. This house was built in 1850 something
and there was no good way to retrofit full size ducts so we went with this
oddball high velocity system. It actually works well except in one room where
the mini ducts are too long. The old R22 heat pump which was replaced was also
3 tons.

developing pay for play video, while making the free stuff into marketing for

Yeah I think my dad had an older one when I was little, his driver,

nice car and I liked that lighted thing

One of my first memories is going with my parents to pick up their
brand new (first new car ever!) 58 Pontiac Super Chief, which I

blue, blue interior, blue metal dashboard! The gas filler was
behind the back-up light which was always a challenge for the gas
monkeys.  My mom would send me out to show them where it was which
was a great fun.

My mom mostly drove it (my Dad let my mom drive the "new" car
while he usually drove some old used thing).  I recall it's demise
when some guy made a left turn in front of my dad on a green light
and the guy got t-boned, which totaled the car.  I was maybe 8 or
9, we were on a "Sunday drive" and it happened in Kendallville,
IN.  My dad was very upset, this car was his baby.  I think he
bought a used fairly new 63 Catalina, which had air conditioning
and a reverberator on the AM radio!

Re: [MBZ] Monark nozzles

2019-01-17 Thread Kaleb C. Striplin via Mercedes
You nailed it. He makes money off of dumb asses like all those people on that
fake book 123 list that fall all over themselves over Kent and some other kid
who supposedly runs a shop but is seriously clueless. I would understand such a
group buying from Kent because they did not know any better but when some old
timers with decades of expertise show up they choose not to listed to advise
and instead continue to flock to Kent. It’s a case of millennials not knowing
what they don’t know and not taking advice.

Yes super chief was the top model, chieftain the bottom. My 49 had a clear

2019-01-17 Thread Floyd Thursby via Mercedes
One of my first memories is going with my parents to pick up their brand
new (first new car ever!) 58 Pontiac Super Chief, which I believe had a
more powerful engine and some other doodads.  Baby blue, blue interior,
blue metal dashboard!  The gas filler was behind the back-up light which
was always a challenge for the gas monkeys.  My mom would send me out to
show them where it was which was a great fun.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IJwRCzcYiD8

My mom mostly drove it (my Dad let my mom drive the "new" car while he
usually drove some old used thing).  I recall it's demise when some guy
made a left turn in front of my dad on a green light and the guy got
t-boned, which totaled the car.  I was maybe 8 or 9, we were on a
"Sunday drive" and it happened in Kendallville, IN.  My dad was very
upset, this car was his baby.  I think he bought a used fairly new 63
Catalina, which had air conditioning and a reverberator on the AM radio!

Canada is a vast natural resource producer. Somebody is making big bank on all
the mining and other natural goodies. Mr. president has given the XL pipe a go

that pipe to Vancouver looks like a go as well.

Politicians are a vile plague upon the populace.

Sounds like Canada. We have oil but we cannot sell it because we cannot
get it to customers. We import oil that we would not have to if we had a
pipeline going east but Quebec won't have it but hold their hand out for
money from the federal government that would have more money to give if
only the oil was moving.

British Columbia uses and sells coal but won't agree to a pipeline from
Alberta to move oil to the coast.

Meanwhile our purchasing power has gone to the dumpster because our
dollar is worth nothing and we don't produce anything so we have to buy
it from China. No one wants to invest here because we are not looking to
do business. We just want to tax you so that we can give the money to
fools who don't deserve it.

And the young have been brainwashed to believe they must vote for the
idiots who think that we alone can save the planet if we tax ourselves
to the poor house for anything carbon related. And we get no credit for
producing clean energy. Manitoba has hydro electric dams but we are
being forced to swallow the carbon tax idiocy.

So far as I can see our only immediate solace can be found in the fact
that although our PM is  incompetent, at least he does not appear to be
as corrupt as your POTUS.

I did read up on the jeep in the garage. Typical daimler chrysler quality
compromised 19 year old vehicle. I am not sure that scheduled maintanance has
been done. This thing creaks and groans like a rusted out junker. Has
original hoses that leak coolant, probably not lubricated in ages, and oil may
not be fresh nor fluids. May have been washed last spring, but not detailed
in four years.

If it were a benz, and I had all my tools and cleaning kit, I would be all over
this. Not my car, not my area of expertise working on OBDII troubles. Not a
diesel, so pretty worthless to me.

Re: [MBZ] OT: Heat Pump Demand Defrost?

2019-01-17 Thread Mitch Haley via Mercedes
Sounds like your brand new system is too big for the available airflow.
Refrigeration units are more efficient at lower temperature rise.
If you're seeing more than a 20-25° rise from return to supply temp you need
more air.
(like 68° thermostat setting and 88° supply outlet temps)
It might be because the installer didn't set the blower speed right or it might
be because your ducts are too small.
I'd check the static pressure (pressure in the supply duct minus pressure going
into the air handler) and find out if you're overworking the new blower. If you
have the install book it should have some pressure info, but IIRC anything over
one inch is considered bad.

Luckily my house had a 100,000 btu furnace in it, so although the ducts were
marginal for the original design they're oversized for the 46k furnace and 1.5
ton AC I put in.

I think Rheem = Emerson (don't know) and if I'm right you'd need to modify the
printed circuit or install an external relay to make it work.
The Rheems go for about $60 on Amazon.

With Rheem to Carrier I'm sure you'd have to reverse the power to the reversing
valve.
Almost everybody uses reversing valves that default to heat mode when not
powered.
Rheem, last I knew, used reversing valves that are normally cooling.

I'd go to that DIY discussion board I linked earlier and see if Beenthere is
still around for specific advice for your new unit.
Or I can see if I have his email address on my other computer.

This is what I should have done, adding a relay would have been simpler than
tracking down the sensors that didn't come with the board I bought and I would
have saved about $60.

If you can lift the battery out straight up
then it should work.

On my w123s I sometimes have trouble
getting the 49 battery out from under the

cramped in there and the taller battery would
never get in there. Too bad as it sounds like
a good replacement.

The Battery Council International (BCI) Battery Replacement Data Book,
2014 Edition says,

 L W H LW H

Group 49: 353 175 190 13-15/16 6-15/16 7-1/2

Group 31T: 330 173 24013 6-13/16 9-7/16

Interstate says their 31-MHD battery is
   13" L x 6-3/4" W x 9-3/8" H

So the Group 31 battery is about 2" higher than the Group 49 battery.

The ODB connector near the battery is 10-3/8" above the bottom of
the battery tray. That gives at least 1" between the terminals on
the Group 31T battery and the underside of the padding of the hood.
