[MBZ] OT Frogbarge seats (observations on flying)
First an explanation: Frog = french. barge is something that floats and may be pushed in any direction. airbus=frog plane therefore it is also a frogbus. or a frogbarge. Its been a while since I flew domestic airlines. Over the past few days, flew 4 flights. 3 of then were on frogbus, A319, 320, 321. THe other was on a 747, designed about 1976-77. The seats on the frogbarges have a "pillow" at the top of the seat cover that forces your head forward. I found the seats to be very uncomfortable because of the unnatural head forward position. Incidentally, the dogde van has "headrests" that protruded in front of the seat also, forcing your into a headdown position. This makes the muscles in the back of your neck work all the time to keep your head up so you can drive. It is quite fatiguing. On the dogde, I noticed the rods supporting the headrests looked the same size and spacing as out 80s MB cars. So, I pulled one out, and compared it to the MB headrests I had. Bingo! The van now has 2 blue MB headrests and no longer forces you into an uncomfortable position. The 757 was the 3rd flight, and a long one. it was noticeably more comfortable to sit in the 757 seat. Some other things have changed a lot. 1. on all 4 flights, all the window covers were down all the time. These were all daylight flights, over the cont. US, and generally good visibility. There was plenty to see. 2. On the 3rd flight, nearly 10% of the passengers were wheeled onto the plane in wheelchairs. (236 passengers) I've seen 2-3 wheelchairs before, but this jetway had the wheelchairs stacked up like grocery carts. 3. Probably another 8% had walkers, canes or otherwise needed extra time to board. 4. All flights were near a holiday, but I only saw 1 computer used on a plane. (it was a Mac) (I saw maybe a couple tablets) ___ http://www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com
Re: [MBZ] Memorial Day Poem
We spent memorial day with a huge flock of fliers. A-6, F-4, A1 and more, up to F18. It was a very interesting and also humbling experience. One was the air boss on the USS Midway when the cessna landed on it. The ship's Captain ok'd the landing and the Air Boss made it happen. Also got to see the note the pilot, a ARVN Major dropped on the deck. 7 people were in the 2 seat plane. Had the opportunity to talk to many of the pilots and crew members. What an experience. One other very interesting conversation was with a man who trained at Biloxi (T-28) flew fixed and rotary; flew many secret missions; was ordered to fly helo for the evacuation of Saigon, but his name was not on the list of those who were to be evacuated, and thereby saved. But he and 14 family members did get out. Another flyer we met flew in WWII, then flew the Navy version of the B24 on spook missions, and continued to fly Navy until the 1970s. Good stuff! The second stanza of Magee's piece is better known. Nice to see it all! Like seeing all verses of the Star Spangled Banner. archer75--- via Mercedes wrote on 5/29/19 1:01 PM: Oh! Re: [MBZ] Chebby brakes
Only way I could get brakes on the 85 107 was pressure bleeding from each wheel cyl. The ABS kept it from bleeding top down, but I could bleed the SDL with the same ABS by gravity. I figgered something was stuck in the ABS unit? Kaleb C. Striplin via Mercedes wrote on 5/24/19 1:15 PM: Ok, I a bled the crap out of it. I did the bleeder at the abs unit, then did all the wheels again started and RR, the LR, RF, LF. I ran about 3qts of fluid thru it. At all wheels I have clean fluid and no bubbles coming out. Took it out and it still has very little braking. Pedal goes probably 3/4 of the way to the floor till any sort of braking action happens. It will stop, but not very fast and would not stop pulling a trailer. Even if the back brakes were not fully adjusted out yet it would be better than this. When I pump the pedal it does return but its not an instant return as soon as you left off the pedal. Also, when just holding steady pressure at about the half pedal travel or oven 3/4 travel pedal does not sink it seems to stay steady. Also, the red brake lite is on that would come on if the parking brake is on, the manual says this indicates a brake problem. No joke. I really do not see how I could still have air in the lines. Brakes are worse than they were before I replaced the rear wheel cylinders but they were never very good in the first place. The front calipers and hoses are fairly new also. ___ http://www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com

True, and maybe I’m being too simplistic. The point being that is if you correspond with anyone who does not use the app, your communications will not be encrypted. So unless you can get everyone you know on board with Signal, you’re sending and receiving unencrypted SMS messages (unless you’re using an iPhone and the other part is as well.) -D > On May 29, 2019, at 9:01 PM, OK Don via Mercedes > wrote: > > Almost correct - Signal only sends info to other signal apps/users. And again, what’s so special about text messaging between family members that people are worried about the content being logged? She does realize that any texts you or she sends to non-family members without the app are sent “in the clear” anyway, unless both parties are using an Apple device? This is what I’m talking about. Re: [MBZ] ***SPAM*** RE: ***SPAM*** OT: "Signal" App
It’s for text messaging, so I’m not sure how it would benefit you for online purchases. And yes, it’s an excellent choice for users that want to keep their text messaging encrypted if they’re not using iMessage (Apple) or another encrypted messaging app. It’s not terribly useful as the person on the other end is using a native messaging app, however. In other words, if you send me an SMS message with Signal and I don’t have the app installed on my phone, you’re no more secure than if you were using the native Android messaging app of your choice. The receiving entity has to have Signal on their phone, too for the message to be encrypted. As for email, if you’re trying to secure that, it’s a whole ‘nother ball game. And do be aware that your ISP/phone provider is logging everything that goes across the wire, too. There is so much data being vacuumed up that it’s a complete 'whack a mole” world out there. I’m a security professional with all the tools necessary at my fingertips, and I don’t bother with stuff like this unless I’m doing OSINT or HUMINT work, depending on the entity I’m doing it for. Going dark takes a LOT of time and energy. Hov’ring there, I’ve chased the shouting wind along, and flung My eager craft through footless halls of air . . . Up, up the long, delirious burning blue I’ve topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace Where never lark, or ever eagle flew — And, while with silent, lifting mind I’ve trod The high untrespassed sanctity of space, Put out my hand, and touched the face of God. by John Magee, American father, English mother. Re: [MBZ] Memorial Day Poem
I have not been to the Air & Space museum for years and watched the movie they show, but it used to feature this poem with uplifting narration with lots of footage of airplanes flying and music with lots of timpanies booming. Government workers like the timpani booms, it apparently seems patriotic, even if the music is like doggerel. BTW the ASM is amazing, esp the Dulles Annex. I don't think they have a movie with timpani music there though. --FT On 5/29/19 2:19 PM, Jim Cathey via Mercedes wrote: Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth...
