yeah the cheapest trans jack I could find was around $75, and That is
more than I want to pay for what may well be a one use thing.  I thought
HF had them for about $50, but they have raised prices to where I can
buy one locally for less.  My guess is that HF has passed to the next

are often higher than elsewhere.  It is no longer the purveyor of cheep

[MBZ] 99 E320

2019-09-12 Thread Buggered Benzmail via Mercedes
I picked this up this evening. Very nice car, well taken care of. Cheap WiFi
reader showed P0700 code for transmission. I know tranny is stuck in limp mode
but it runs and drives well. A bit rough idle, something to do with secondary
air injection or something I guess, there was a code for that. I seem to recall
this is a common issue, will have to research that. I could see the real time
idle on the WiFi OBD reader.

Woman says it got a new TCM which didn’t cure the issue, mech said conductor
plate. Probably is it, I’ll order a new one and get it swapped.

Hooked up the fancy computer and once again the hand held box wouldn’t connect
to get details though it seems to be going through the motions. Seems to be a
power or battery voltage issue but I’m not sure. It’s acting weirdly. Will have
to pursue that further. I wanted to see if I could clear the tranny code or get
more details.

A bad evaporator temp sensor is what I would have suggested. It's there to cut
the compressor off when the evaporator is too cold, and those are your
symptoms. Check to make sure the sensor is in the correct position, too.
Don't know where it is on the W201, but on the W124 it's above the driver's
foot, inside.

I don’t think so but it’s possible. I would think the compressor should cycle
though. Anyway I think I found the problem. I took everything apart to replace
a squeaky blower motor. I had repaired some wires back behind the battery that
were mouse damaged. I noticed the wiring to the evap temp sensor were chewed
on. I could not tell if they were completely chewed but looked bad so I
repaired it. I’m betting that was the problem but will know tomorrow when I
drive it to Tulsa.

[MBZ] W123s in SoCal...or lack thereof

2019-09-12 Thread Bob Rentfro via Mercedes
Over here in Sandy Eggo checking out the proton beam therapy joint (yeah, I got
diagnosed with early stage prostate cancer, damn it) and it’s alarming how few
W123s one sees any more. Zero in two days. Seeing my new cancer buddy Gordon’s
mint 1978 Olds 98, in the cool and breezy parking lot, made me realize the
dearth of W123s.

[MBZ] 190D AC

2019-09-12 Thread Kaleb Striplin via Mercedes
So I replaced the manifold hose assembly, new drier, converted to 134 and
pulled vacuum for 1 hour before charging. AC blow great, super cold. Once you
are driving it blows ice cubes, literally. So after about 15-20 minutes the
evaporator is basically freezing up. You will start getting fog blowing out the
vents followed by snow, then loss of airflow. If I put it in ec mode for a few
minutes it thaws out then is fine again. This issue seems to be the compressor
is constantly running, it does not cycle off and on. The PBU that was in the
car had a programa rebuilt sticker and the snow flake button did not turn the
compressor on at all but the top button did that is supposed to be for dehumify
and runs compressor constantly. The snow flake button is supposed to be normal
mode that cycles compressor. I swapped in a different PBU and the compressor
kicks on with the snow flake button but stays running all the time. Could this
be something in the PBu? Or the kooks relay? Or maybe a sensor? These 201
systems are a little different from other systems MB used.

Re: [MBZ] ***SPAM*** OT: American Kobe Beef!

2019-09-12 Thread Dan--- via Mercedes
Bernie’s Fine Meats in my former town of Port Washington, WI. You walk in,
point to what you want, it goes over to the meat saw to be cut to your choice
of thickness. Summer sausage to die for. Smoked chicken. Always had fresh
turkey for Thanksgiving, and a quarter beef on the freezer from them. Excellent
homemade brats and other sausages of your choosing.

John and Jan, the former proprietors, were great people. Forget your checkbook
or card? The little green ticket got pinned on the wall next to the register
and you settled up next time you were there.

I pay handsomely to get their yummy stuff shipped overnight via FedEx to
Florida. It’s worth every penny. To this day my boys will ask, “When’s the next
box from John and Jan’s coming?”

Which reminds me - I need to place an order...

There is an attachment that fits into most floor

use the floor jack and hold the transmission on
balance while pumping the handle with my leg. It
doesn't take much as the transmission is light.

The MB stealer websites all want very high shipping costs. Like $18

not so. Stealer parts have still not arrived.

When everything is here, I will try to assemble a list of parts and part

So by next week, I hope the weather breaks and we have a few dry days to
work on the trans and get it in the car.

Anyone got tricks for how to get an A/T up into the car without a trans

slipping blocks under it is the way to go. With a helper, I might be
able to balance it on a floor jack while the helper jacks it up.

So how much did they learn? Why post a picture of
a Hella lens and then send an aftermarket part?

Maybe they are on the way out of business and just
trying to get rid of everything they have. I know
I won't be ordering from them again.

Re: [MBZ] ADSIT Redeems Themselves

2019-09-12 Thread David Bruckmann via Mercedes
I have had one CRAZY unfortunate transaction with them, wherein I ordered
OUTDOOR covers for my W108 and C107. The 108 cover was a dusty, ancient, cotton
cover clearly designed (and MARKED!) for "indoor use only". Based on the dust
ON and IN the box, it had been sitting on a shelf for decades somewhere. The
107 cover was at least an outdoor cover, but not very good quality. It took
plenty of interaction with them, and some threats, to get credit for the 108
cover. He would NOT budge on the 107 cover, saying it was "the latest
available".

I will NOT be rushing back for more!

I generally support the underdog, even if it's a little more expensive. But
there's no excuse for fraud and rude behaviour.

[MBZ] 722.3 trans update

2019-09-12 Thread Curley McLain via Mercedes
I found the shift lever seal on fleabay.  It arrived first!  I ordered
it last!   still don't know the MB part number.  MB Tampa bay could not
find P/N. The autohaus order came in after 7-8 days.

The MB stealer websites all want very high shipping costs.   Like $18
shipping for the $3.75 k1 spring kit.  I figgered that was 2 day air.
not so.  Stealer parts have still not arrived.

When everything is here, I will try to assemble a list of parts and part
numbers, and mfgr numbers for everything and post it for all y'all.

So by next week, I hope the weather breaks and we have a few dry days to
work on the trans and get it in the car.

Anyone got tricks for how to get an A/T up into the car without a trans
jack and without a helper?  I am thinking that rocking it fore/aft while
slipping blocks under it is the way to go.   With a helper, I might be
able to balance it on a floor jack while the helper jacks it up.

This is cheaper than buying new ones? I ask because shoe repair is almost
as expensive as buying a new pair of shoes.

Bait and switch. Most folks would not know the difference and likely
wouldn't care anyway so they get away with it.

Understood. Their reputation goes back a long, long way.

Maybe the ability to deal with them via electronic means versus person to

Re: [MBZ] ADSIT Redeems Themselves

2019-09-12 Thread ROGER HALE via Mercedes
Well, I'll give you another data point from years ago. Back around 2000, I
needed a glow plug relay for my 1980 300SD. MB wanted my wallet and first born
so nothing there. I tried a used one, but as the SD was still in change, the
prior years didn't work correctly. Finally, I found one for the 1980 at ADSIT.
The price was more than a used one on eBay, but far less than a new MB unit.
I got it, installed it and almost 20 years later it's still on the car working
properly. I had no problems with ADSIT, a smooth transaction. There's an old
expression, "you'll get more with an ounce of sugar than a pound of salt".
Business is business, try the sugar first.

Best wishes,

Roger
