"Service cars", the post office used small jeeps smaller and lower than CJ 
Jeep's,  2 wheel drive DJ  "dispatch Jeeps" , which were replaced by the larger 
aluminum bodied llv's "long life vehicles"

There are no facilities able to bother with waste oil from what I can tell.  
There should be somebody who should, but the land area is too great and 
producers so spread out, there just ain’t a way to do it profitably.  

I took an old folks class last fall, and we did tours of waste 
processing/recycling facilities.  For something like vehicle fluids, the stuff 
would need to be gathered, then would end up in 55 gallon barrels and shipped 
back down to Tacoma, WA.  Too expensive to send glass down south, so it either 
just goes in the trash and landfill, or the really eco friendly will self sort 
and take it to a processing center where the glass ends up hauled to a place 
that will crush it and use it for bedding sewer pipes.  Fluids would be worse.

It would not surprise me if some of the repair/service places will have it used 
in waste oil burners for shop heating.  I expect it is more likely to just get 
put in empty jugs and tossed in the garbage.  From the large oil spots leaving 
a trail behind last weeks garbage truck, somebody got rid of a few gallons that 
way.

There is a landfill that is supposed to have only garbage left, and a person 
would be able to segregate his toxic waste from normal waste.  There is a 
garbage Co-gen facility that provides around 35% of the power for JBER.  Pretty 
sure oil ends up there as fuel.

All the machinery/snow machines/dead cars/scrap in Alaska usually ends up just 
where it died.  Fluids and all.  Too expensive to actually deal with it.  Maybe 
at some far future it will be reprocessed tectonically and mined by aliens.

Nothing compares to wild blueberries picked in the hills around Sault Ste. 
Marie.  Takes a million or so to make anything, but they make wonderful pies 
and jam.  

Just have to watch out for bears while you are picking them, they are quite 
fond of blueberries.

We bought the huge FL blueberries at Costco and I made a crustless
blueberry pie.  Easy!

Whisk together 1 cup each of flour and sugar and a little salt, add a
couple eggs and 1 tsp vanilla that were mixed into a stick of melted
unsalted butter, then fold in 2 cups of blueberries.  Sprinkle another 1/4
c of berries and 3 tb of sugar over the top.  Makes a thick batter that
bakes into a really nice pie-shaped cake (39 minutes at 350 deg.)

nuts and a couple of tablespoons of yogurt for breakfast. The fresh
blueberries here are the commercial large ones, not near as much flavor as

Many, many years ago, I owned a Harley 3 wheel vehicle that was purpose
built and sold as a meter maid vehicle. It had the Harley 45 Cubic inch
flat head engine and was equipped with a reverse gear which was very
convenient. The box on the back was about waist high and made to hold "cop
stuff". I found it was exactly the right size to make beer runs, with ice
for the Frat house.. so it got regular use.. ;)

Nope, they don’t grow here. We get them in waves depending upon where in the 
world they are being harvested. The ones from “down east” are the best by far, 
I feel.

Typically, I’ll have them in oatmeal or cold baked sweet potatoes in the 
mornings and then a couple of handfuls throughout the day.

or at least a pickup truck, and it is somewhat unusual, so maybe it fits 
the mold.


I remember cops used to drive little things like that for parking 
violators, and the mailmen had them.

Sadly blueberries are a couple months out here.  Early June as a rule.

Don't know if I will be able to pick cherries this year, depends on when the 
restrictions are lifted.  May have to buy pre-picked, which is much better than

sign I cut on my laser and spray painted gold, and I made a cane out of 
PVC pipe and spray painted it gold.  I bought some silver 3" platform 
shoes to wear with the suit.  I need to add my rap name G-Dolla to the $ 
sign, will have to fire up the laser again.  All the hos at the partay 
wanted to get a picture with Dis Playa yo

I tend to believe academic researchers over stuff on the web.  

Discounting Germany because the Depression there was both self-induced (the 
runaway inflation was an attempt to get out of the reparations from WWI) and 
external due to the rapaciousness of the French and British who didn't want to 
pay for the war they helped start.  In all other cases, going off the gold 
standard opened up the economy.

In fact, things stayed really bad until Franklin simply raised the price of 
gold every week.  Coupled with banning private ownership of gold (and hoarding 
money that way), the value of goods started to increase and commerce started 
back up.  Should have been done much faster.

The other major problem was simple lack of money in any demonimation -- when 
the banks failed, all the cash vanished.  No one had any, there wasn't any way 
to get any, and hence commerce stopped.

Remember, the Fed RAISED interest rates repeatedly through the Depression, and 
refused to lend money for quite a while.  Things were going well by 1936, when 
the Republican Congress insisted on balancing the budget immediately, removing 
money from the economy just about the time it was becoming self sustaining.  

Key point, if you are interested, is the 1936 flood in New England.  In 
response to the serious serious damage, the Feds sent actual money, and quite 
suddenly, with actual money being in circulation, the local economy boomed.  
People had cash to buy lumber to rebuild damaged buildings, and suddenly the 
sawmill had work, and got paid, and the workers took home real paychecks and 
bought stuff at the dry good store so the store had money to buy more stock, 
and so forth.

Took some people a very long time to figure out that without money, no one buys 
anything, and if no one buys anything, all commerce stops.

In fact, there are quite a few loudmouths out there already honking about the 
evils of unemployment compensation and public grants.  Mostly "business" 
people, demonstrating how little they know about their own activities and the 
relation they have to functioning commerce.

Unemployment isn't to allow lazy people not to work, it's to keep business 
operating rather than the whole nation going bankrupt.

[MBZ] Question for Clay

I just got a promotional email from Auto Zone about the things they’re doing to 
assist customers and continue business operations, one of which is accepting 
waste oil. Something that sort of jumped out at me in the fine print was a 
statement that they don’t recycle oil in Alaska.

I will add, that it would be very easy to make up a short extension cord 
with the wires separated so that the clamp on meter could get at one 
wire, especially if you used one of the flat cords with the groove down 
the middle. The only thing lacking would be the 10X coil.

I bought one a while back at Menards. Don't recall the brand name but it 
was in the store grouping of meters etc. Seems to work fine. I have 3 
different clamp on meters. I think the jaws are big enough on all of 
them to use with the splitter.

Everything does that. Facebook, amazon and google all listen in if you give
them permission to use the microphone. I use google voice to dial my phone
in the car and sometimes catch it listening to other things. I have
blacklisted a bunch of google ad sites at home so it probably doesnt track
me there as much as it woukd like.

Keeping the phone on super power saver is a good option. Shuts it all down.

and all, seems decent.  Unsure what the tranny issue is, I wonder if it 
is something simple or will need a new tranny.  He says "Making noise 
(rattling)" I've got this E500 sitting here with a collapsed suspension 
and no title, would be a good donor.  I bet $1k would get it, he was

Apparently RR uses something Castrol made called “RR363”. The alternative is 
TRW PFM201 which appears to be identified as a mineral based oil.

In a quick Google search it appears that the older models used a DOT3 fluid for 
brakes and suspension systems that had castor oil added to it for lubricity.
