The better (less bad?) ones used Pinto (or maybe PintoStang) donors. The awful ones (who did that, Fiberfab?) used Beetle donors and didn't look right from 100' away. Fiberfab did have a GT that looked a lot better than a Bradley, but I don't think it had Bradley's build quality. The only popular 1970s kit car I want is a Meyers Manx. Mitch. I was into kit cars when I was a teenager. My Dad talked about a Bradley GT for years but never pulled the trigger. The ones that really interested me were the ones that used the Beetle body but sectioned portions of it off and then put a fiberglass body on to the Beetle - there was a company that did a pickup truck version and a panel van. You sectioned the Beetle’s body off behind the door pillar and fiberglassed the “new” body onto it from there. They weren’t terribly expensive relative to what a full blown kit car cost, but were pretty cool, I thought. -D > On Oct 23, 2020, at 11:33 AM, Randy Bennell via Mercedes > wrote: > > On 23/10/2020 8:21 AM, Floyd Thursby via Mercedes wrote: >> Pinto engine? >> >> https://greensboro.craigslist.org/ctd/d/madison-1929-mercedes-ssk-fiberfab/7218788317.html >> >> > Too cute. Re: [MBZ] OT: Geothermal energy to the rescue
Geothermal uses the temperature difference between the hot source and cool sink: more is better. In places like Iceland where the earth's crust is thin and mantle closer to the surface, geothermal is very practical and powers most of that island. Other places not so much. The article has some technical errors (like temp and depth of the magma) but the ideas are OK. Someone needs to look into the long-term climate impacts of extracting massive amounts of heat from the earth's core. Any engineer will tell you that there is (almost) no free lunch. In any event, it is only useful for stationary power/heat generation: liquid fuels and/or super batteries still needed for vehicles. -Original Message- From: Mercedes On Behalf Of OK Don via Mercedes Sent: Friday, October 23, 2020 3:32 PM To: Mercedes Discussion List Cc: OK Don Subject: [MBZ] OT: Geothermal energy to the rescue Sounds almost too good to be true, but worth a try: https://www.vox.com/energy-and-environment/2020/10/21/21515461/renewable-energy-geothermal-egs-ags-supercritical -- OK Don "Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it is time to pause and reflect."
