Short drives are hell on the DPF. I make sure my Jetta takes at least a 1hr run 
a month, more would be better but thats the frequency I go into the office 
these days. If I start restoring my house in Maine it'll get a lot more miles 
on it.

Probably. I suspect if you park it when the check engine light comes on, you 
can get away with replacement of the balancer gear and related parts (Fcp euro 
has a kit), but once it's making much noise, the whole engine is probably toast.

dpf and regen bs entirely. Yeah, it's not legal federally, but if your state 
doesn't inspect Probably get WAY better fuel economy too.

The car is pretty darn clean as it is.  Probably the cleanest vehicle 
currently sitting at okie acres at the moment.  Just wait until the wife 
gets ahold of it.  Looking thru the records the PO (before Hoovie) JUST 
had the air suspension compressor, air struts, and the timing chain 
replaced within the last 1k miles. Upon looking at the car I do need to 
replace the bat wing air intake thing on top of the engine due to the 
fact that its broken where it connects to the turbo and not securely 
clamped down like it should be.  Also is missing the left air intake 
pipe that pulls air in from the grille to the air cleaner on that side.  
I am also going to go ahead and do a full service on it.  It appears it 
may have had an oil change recently but I have no idea what they used.  
I will probably also replace the pvc valve and install a catch can of 
some sort.  It seems the big problem with these is the crappy oil they 
use in them to protect the dpf.  I will use an actual synthetic HDEO 
that is actually for diesels.  With the catch can the oil vapors should 
not make it to the dpf.

I tapped it firmly onto the rounded bolt head and then attached a ratchet to it 
and turned. It bit into the head of the bolt and broke it loose immediately.

I (on the other hand) use a Topsider (it's actually an "oil boy") all the time. 
 When I had boats with inboard engines, a topsider-like device was the only 
sane way to change engine oil.  Once, very long ago, I drained it into the 
bilge and I'll never do that again.

yeah probably, although for the price (and beat it down) it could be a 
worthwhile project (if you have the time and space and masochistic 
tendencies) if for nothing else than parts.  A trans and transfer case 
is worth considerable money, wheels/tires could net a few $100.


I wonder if a M119 would fit these easily, although getting all the 
nannies to talk would be daunting.

Feeling crappy for a few days vs intensive care and lung damage, etc, I'll take 
the feeling crappy.

Long time without a post!

Given info from US FDA on size of phase 3 clinical trials the Pfizer study
is a close second to J&J.  Phase 3 is the last step to collect data before
one could apply for clearance to use in the US:

Pfizer: 43.651 (Combined phase 2/3)

Moderna: 30,418

J&J/Janssen: 44.325
https://www.fda.gov/media/146217/download   (Table 5)

While the Pfizer study was a combined phase 2/3 study (w/FDA blessing),
phase 2 studies are relatively small- for example, ~2k people in the
Moderna Phase 2.   If you have good data and are addressing an urgent need
you can ask FDA to combine a phase 2 and phase 3.  If they like your data,
they're likely to give you the green light.

While not common, this approach has been used with previous disease states
and drugs.

I'll echo what was said before- if you can get a shot, take what you can
get.  The differences in efficacy are minor compared to the risk of
covid...esp w/the new variants swimming around.

Im posting to help a friend out to sell this 2000 Mercedes Benz s500. It 
has cosmetic damage. The air ride was removed and is on struts. Its does 
run and drive strong. In order to start it you have to use a jumper wire 
to start. He needs it gone and its cost ro much money out his pocket.
