This evening I washed and took the “limper” $900E500 just down the road to get a bit of gas ($3.59 for premium at the rich folks‘ convenience station, was $2.99 at Costco Friday) in it as it was about empty. Was running and shifting just fine. I wonder if it has anything to do with manual shifting as I was working the shifter to see if that worked and it was running the gears just fine. Maybe something got confused. I did not get under it to check connections so I need to do that. Would be my luck if I got plates and took it more than a couple miles away and the tranny acted up again. So anyway this is again a pleasant surprise. It’s screaming about the brakes and the air suspension, I recall looking at the codes right after I got it and it was not clear what the issues are as everything seems to work ok. There was some issue with RR shock but it is not collapsing. I’ll have to check it again. CEL is on too but it runs great. Nannies... It’s a really nice car, I need to get the interior cleaned as that is really the only unpleasant aspect, the carpet is really nasty. No recall on those. Its a 15 year old modestly priced car after all... That's a steal. The PD engine is pretty zippy, same as Angie's car. Re: [MBZ] Rounded drain plug success!
When you install the new drain plug, clean the threads in the pan [maybe even a blast of brake cleaner] then coat the plug threads with Never Seize. Next time you drain the oil, the plug will come out. I've been doing that trick with steel drain plugs that go into aluminum manual transmission cases for a long time with good success. [MBZ] SL600 loosing colant
The SL has been loosing colant recently which made me think a head gasket had blown but looking at it yesterday I am thinking a new water pump is needed. Kinda making noise and looks like the leak is coming from the pulley shaft area.
