Re: [MBZ] 2 post lift?

2021-04-13 Thread G Mann via Mercedes
Decades ago, the first shop of any size I bought had an in floor lift...
It worked, then it had a problem... Repair costs included demolition of the
floor, digging out the in ground hydraulics, and one hell of a costly and
disruptive expense.
I had them jackhammered out [the underground hydraulics are set in concrete
and go down 10 ft... removed the mess, compacted the hole and replaced them
with 2 post above ground surface mount lifts.

Since that incident, I have only owned above ground lifts.. any issues were
quickly repairable, and economical, when compared with my costly experience
with cast in place in floor mounted lifts.

Re: [MBZ] OT Home and auto insurance

2021-04-13 Thread Clay via Mercedes
Liberty is in the class of company (Family) I will avoid like plague. Mostly
because their drivers have impacted my cars, causing expensive damage and their
adjusters and whole method is to screw over the aggrieved party by holding out
for as long as possible, creating all manner of inconveniences, such that after
five weeks of getting nowhere, you just cave and have your own policy cover the
damage. You end up out your deductible, have the car off the road for months,
and feel poorly about the whole mess. Whichever umbrella company liberty falls
under, their insureds have taken out the w124, caused mass damage to the w220,
and caused the w126 SD to be totaled, tried to have it hauled away after hours
from the body shop, and I ended up footing the bill out of pocket to get them
to back off, contacted personal injury lawyer to get after them, and ratted
them out to state insurance commissioner, who penalized them over multiple
illegal actions. I had to use my own coverage for the extensive medial claims,
and their adjusters hounded me to close out the claim, even though there is a
three year window for addressing the bodily harm.

If you do not mind having criminals insuring your belongings, get liberty. I
am sticking with USAA

Mount it correctly to required specs, and use it at every opportunity, you
will never regret owning it.
At the end of the work day, you can actually see where you have finished
the work and it is so much easier to do at standing height.. or whatever
height the work needs...
Transmission R&R... easy engine / transmission pull... easy.. brake
jobs.. easy... weld repair to exhaust.. easy... all because you have quick
access..

Phil was the first foreign-born astronaut in the US space program as an Apollo
astronaut. He gave me my first “real” job and was a great funny extremely smart
crazy totally amazing guy (pure Aussie!). He just missed flying on an Apollo
Mission to the Moon when the program was cancelled. I think he might have been
a backup crew for Apollo 13 and would have flown had they disclosed the
illness.

Probably with a bunch of other things. In this case it goes on a truck all by

That price is the worst case scenario if I have to hire a truck to drive 16
hours and spend an hour loading/unloading at each end. Best case would be
finding somebody who is deadheading north to pickup a load...

You know what’s really weird? My brother got this email. He has nothing to do
with Mercedes’ and never has. He emailed me a few hours ago about this and was
wondering what the deal was.

Re: [MBZ] MELLOW YELLOW! 2003 Mercedes-Benz SLK-Class SLK 230 Roadster 2D, $8, 500

2021-04-13 Thread Dan Penoff via Mercedes
The situation is compounded by a long-standing housing shortage in Flagstaff
and the fact that it’s a popular vacation area, so there are a lot of second
homes there.

I have a search running on RedFin (real estate) for properties that come on the
market in the area. I’ll bet easily a third of what I’ve seen come on the
market in single family homes over the last couple of months have been
privately owned investment properties that are vacation rentals. The average
3-4 bedroom 2-1/2 bath suburban home there is between $500k-$900k. Those go
under contract within a couple of days, and there are aggressive bidding wars
for them. A lot of listings state that they’ll accept offers for a week then
make a decision at that time. No contingencies, no inspections, no nothing.
Step up with cash in hand or you won’t be considered.

It’s nuckin’ futz.

Re: [MBZ] I bought this to keep the roads clear of downed trees, but it is is too much machine for me 1987 Mercedes-Benz unimog, $19, 000

2021-04-13 Thread Curt Raymond via Mercedes
After going to the gym 3 days a week for a year I've actually gained
(regained?) an inch as confirmed at a Dr. visit last month. I suppose this
would just put that inch back. ;)
I bet shipping that thing would be a big expense. I've priced moving a 14,000#
backhoe the 450 miles to camp and it looks like its going to be somewhere just
south of $3,000...

We’re waiting, believe me. Target time is maybe 24 months out, and that’s just
for land acquisition. It’s going to make a lot more sense to build than buy
existing with where property values are up there. Even if the economy tanks
they won’t drop significantly in that area.

Housing prices and lumber prices being as they are, you may want to pretend
it's 2007 again and wait 24 months. I know several people that bought at the
peak in 2007-2008 and are still nearly upsidedown thirteen years later.

Re: [MBZ] Gotta hate MB -- $900E500

2021-04-13 Thread Floyd Thursby via Mercedes
I don't think they dig that far into them.  The guy who called yesterday
said the tech figured it was the CP.  That is kinda the lowest level
component if the TCM (called VGS on these units) is bad.  It is an
intermittent issue so I think it must be a loose connection, or some
intermittent system failure.  I did see one guy posted in some forum
that when he "got on it" it dropped into limp mode, which is exactly
what happened last time I drove it, was shifting fine until I stomped it
and it revved up and I was accelerating.  That's why I thought it might
be the SBC nanny telling the tranny nanny to slow down. I did clean the
connector, which is only 4 pins.  It was kinda nasty but not too bad,
did not change anything though I had hoped maybe it was that simple.

I might open it up and see what is going on.  If it is a solenoid issue
(which does not seem to be the case) then the traces can be repaired on
the conductor plate, but if the TCM is crapped then it is new conductor
plate time as the TCM is integral to the CP. That's like $800-900 and it
has to be reflashed to match the car.  I *think* I can do it with the
DAS computer, I have seen something about that procedure but have not
studied it.  But maybe there is something loose in there, maybe I can
see it if I drop the CP.  If the brake controller solenoid on the CP is
actually bad, which is a code it is throwing I thought might be related
to the SBC, then either changing the solenoid or fixing the trace might
fix it.  Fluid refill on these 722.9s are a PITA, there is no dip tube
so you have to pump it up from the bottom with a special fitting on the
drain bung.  "Lifetime" fluid doncha know... and that sh*t is not cheap,
some Very Special Fluid.

I am still trying to get this ML320 limp issue sorted after a new CP and
(used) TCM has not cured the issue, it might be the wiring from the TCM
to the CP, everything else is new.

These nannies are making me crazy but it has now become an obsession so
I will persevere.
