I'd think it would be very similar to a 123 diesel since they both use
the OM617.

Save the 124, maybe combine parts to get a 210 running, party out the rest.

[MBZ] 116 300SD starter

2021-05-07 Thread Kaleb Striplin via Mercedes
In moving some cars around this afternoon, I plopped a battery in this
300SD and went to start it and just click.  It does not sound like a
click from the starter but a click from a relay perhaps. Car ran when
parked, yea yea I know.  It has been sitting about 6 months and not sure
if something is going on with the starter solenoid or something else.
When I hold the key in the start position and move the shifter out of
part and back, you can hear that relay or whatever it is clicking.  I
tried banging on the starter but could not get a good whack on it so
that was not effective.  Do these have a terminal somwhere to hook up a
remote starter switch like the 123 and 126 does?

Should I what? If you've got five grand burning a hole in your pocket, send it
to me.

Seriously, no. It's a money pit at best. I can buy a lot nicer landscaping
ornaments than that for five grand. If it was a facelift 96-99 and you didn't
already have 40+ cars that need saved and 40+ cars that need scrapped, maybe.
But probably not.

[MBZ] Save or part out?

2021-05-07 Thread Kaleb C. Striplin via Mercedes
Here is a selection of cars I am trying to decide if I should part
out, or put back on the road.  You help me decide.  Here is a link
with photos:

http://okiebenz.com/pics/parts%20cars/

1: First car is a 98 4 matic wagon, runs fine but needs throttle
body replaced, has a clanking front cv shaft, needs interior put
back together, 170k miles.

2: 99 E430, 220k miles, middle kid was driving and several times
knocked lower radiator support back pushing it into fan, possibly
has blown head gasket (not sure), been sitting a few years.

3: 00 4 matic wagon, 215k miles, rebuilt title, needs bumper and
hood, front drive axle fell out or something, has a battery drain,
runs great

4: 94 E420, 124k miles, was a very nice car but has been sitting
in barn for about 6 years.  Needs bumper and RF fender.  Hit a
ditch and was told the mounting point for control arm bent and
would need to be cut out and replace.  Not sure if this is really
accurate as I have not got under it and verified, wheel sure looks
straight to me.

5. 01 4 matic wagon, 130k miles, needs hood, bumper, LF fender, LR
door.  I have all the parts except the LR door, if 1st white wagon
is parted out, it has a good door.  Has nice interior with heated
seats, PO says front end just rebuilt, trans in limp mode due to
oil in controller

6. 99 E320, flood car, water appears to have been just even with
center console, I can't remember for sure but I do not think it
cranks, radiator fan comes on when key is turned on and thats it.
I wanted to try replacing modules under front seat and see if it
starts, or clean out the harmonica connector maybe.  Only has 80k
miles.

Regular unleaded $2.99 here last night, so premium is probably
$3.40-ish. Diesel $3.25.

Check for security film also. Not sure how it's different (maybe same
thing), but I've recently read about some film you can put on your
windows that supposedly makes them much harder for an intruder to break
through. I believe 3M makes it, among others.

Re: [MBZ] OT: broken house window

2021-05-07 Thread G Mann via Mercedes
If the window is shattered safety glass, another strong wind or impact of
some sort will cause it to shatter completely into small pieces. Like a car
side window does in a wreck. Then, the storm that brought the wind will
rain inside your house.
Get the window replaced with a new piece of glass. If you check with your
glass supplier, there is a type of "privacy glass" that is textured much
like your "shattered glass" . That might work for you, and give you a
window that won't fall out next time there is a wind storm.

Good evening

A friend is considering a classic convertible, either a Saab or MB.

He was interested in a 2001 W208 (A208, I guess, based on the W202) CLK430

more comfortable and more reliable, just need to be aware of the potential
wiring nightmare.

So, the question is which of the three options is best, and if it has to be a
208/209, which is the lesser evil? I don't think he'd consider an SL, by the
way, but might be convinced if a compelling case could be made.

Thanks for any and all pointers.
