If log books could be found for that airframe, and for the engines, landing gear, control surfaces, flight controls and servos, pressurization systems, wheels, brake system.. and the myriad of other items that must be certified to be "in specification" and you could find repair stations still certified to test and overhaul each component. The Rolls-Royce SPEY engines, inclusive of all variants, only accounts for 2,768 ever produced. So the supply of flyable spare parts after the airframes were flown to the end of service life and retired, is likely now tiny, if any even exist. The RR SPEY engine failed to meet noise abatement regulations in EU and all models were decommissioned and removed from service. US Carriers soon followed. So, win the lottery, spend a few decades trying to find spares and log books, bring it into FAA compliance and inspection, and you still have a ramp dog that can not be flown, even if you could find an ATP flight crew that were type certificated in one... [MBZ] Detailing with steam
Finished doing the front carpets in the 95E320. Pass side came out looking really good. Driver side a lot better but after 265kmi carpet has some patina. But got out a coupla stains so that’s good. The cloth door surrounds are much cleaner now too. I had pressure washed the mats before, scrubbed with the oxy/dawn mix, they are not as clean as the carpets but look ok. Did the door cards and other vinyl surfaces too with steam, cleaner, and soft brush on the drill and they look really good. I had cleaned them before but better now. Even the pedals got cleaned! The steam really loosens up crud that even a good cleaner won’t get. Car looks really nice inside given its age and miles. Seat leather worn and a coupla tears but I’m pleased with it after 2hr work. I should do the back too at some point. I think the car was pretty well taken care of before we got it so that helps too, but a good cleaning does wonders. We definitely have rebuilt titles in Indiana. There is a dealer here that specializes in them (mostly cars that have been totaled due to hail damage). I don't get it either, unless it's some variant of title brand that Indiana doesn't accept. But then how did they get Indiana plates for the car? Not all that different than that 380SL I bought some years ago. Most fun I ever had, driving a _cheap_ convertible. This must be some sort of gray market edition, as it's really a 280SL. Has manual 2-zone HVAC, which has got to be worth sumpin. Are those Euro bumpers? Battery up front. Two new seat covers and massive cleaning, and then it's only the paint. And, any potential rust. Too bad it's not a stickshift! The NLA seat cosmetic hardware seems to be there. No cruise control. Realtor spec but doesn’t look too bad. He’s lowballing it himself. Figure maybe $1000-1200 to sort it out per his description of the problems but could be a bit more. I would go $3500 after scanning it to figure out the issues.
