[MBZ] New Addition - 2008 ML550

Yup, another one…

Picked up a 2008 ML550 tonight. 040 black to match the new W211 E320, I guess. 
Far more sophisticated than any MB I’ve driven to-date, lots of bells and 
whistles. It has KeylessGo, which is nice, as well as a bunch of other things 
I’ve yet to explore. Got it home in anticipation of getting it washed and moved 
inside to start on the interior, but Mother Nature interfered with a typical 
late afternoon Florida storm, so I had to relegate myself to the EPC and other 
sources to take care of the “list ‘o’ parts” I needed to compile for the dealer.

Most things were cosmetic, like a new left side steering wheel switch and trim, 
a latch for the center console, and some other little bits of trim and things. 
One bummer that I had forgotten about was that the temporary spare was missing, 
so I will probably swing by LKQ tomorrow when I go to fill it up (ouch!) and 
see if they’ve still got the spare on the 2007 ML that’s in the yard.

It’s just about due for an oil change, which I’ll take care of tomorrow along 
with whatever other filters it might need after inspecting them. It’s going to 
need a headliner, but that’s a job for my upholstery guy in a month or so.

It’s a lot of fun to drive and quite comfortable, nothing like the harsh ride 
of the W163 (my W164 does have solid suspension, not air.) It’s still 
definitely truck-like, but nowhere near as much as the W163, I think. Much 
better drink holders than the W211, too. Now I know I can’t let Mrs. Dan drive 
this thing…

Pictures in the morning once I’ve cleaned it up.

[MBZ] Fortuitous tire deal

I had one of the new tires on the ML leaking down so I’m here at the shop 
getting it dealt with. No nail so the guy is gonna remount it with bead sealer 
and stem. 

Wandering around looking at display I see a Michelin Pilot Sport AS3+ like I 
need for the E500 to replace the fronts that are worn out due to bad front 
suspension I’m gonna get fixed. There are 2 fairly new on the rear. I ask the 
guy if they have these and how much, he checks and says they have 2 left, the 
new AS4 is replacing these. $184 each. That’s about $75 less each than what 
Costco quoted. So good deal. I’ll pull the fronts off and bring them up for the 
new tars.

I’ve never seen those wheels on a 129 so made me think they were 107 
aftermarket wheels that have been bodged to fit. Whatever, they are fugly on 
that car. Some nice AMGs or something more tasteful would be much better.

house RM Sotheby's, the sale from May 5 to a private buyer will fund a 
worldwide scholarship program for climate change education and research. 
The buyer, who wasn't named, reportedly lobbied Mercedes for more than a 
year to purchase the car.

a used car and they're the only US owner?


The 1980s want their wheels back.
Gold BBS mesh would probably look OK on a black or green R107, but not a 
bright red R129.
Hmm, either those wheels are very wide or they don't have enough offset. 
Maybe they came off a R107?
