I think I've probably seen the same video. The one I watched said you could fit
7 in a shipping container so the pro move was to get 6 friends to buy with you
and save on shipping.

The ones around here start at $6k, I've been tempted to buy a couple for $3500
each delivered, sell one and get one for cheap.

Re: [MBZ] This is Close to Dream Car

2023-05-17 Thread Jim Cathey via Mercedes

I have not. The only model that suffers is the 123, because it uses a styrene
light pipe. All the others put the bulbs a lot closer to the action. IF you
had
a bright LED that happened to aim at the light guide, and got the polarity
right, switching might be an improvement on the 123. All I did was clean
things up, and line the light guide with shiny aluminum foil, IIRC. Was a
marginal improvement, but when you are on the edge, sometimes marginal
is enough.

Plus the usual rheostat games.

If you screw up and use a halogen lamp, all you usually do is melt the styrene
and ultimately make the problem worse.

Its surprisingly easy and inexpensive to import a car from Japan. There are
lots of websites setup to help you with the process.

I've been playing with https://carfromjapan.com/ to look at the little Kei
trucks. I'd like to get a dump truck for the farm but the ones I find are beat,
they want bunch of money or its beat AND they want a bunch of money. The Kei
trucks are less expensive and of a size that will fit in all the places around
the farm. I suspect it's a really buyer beware situation though since you can't
inspect the vehicle in advance...

Tow hitch, interior looks pretty good considering the miles. Would need to find

Wonder what caused that area of crackled paint on the front third of the hood?

My W116/W123 dashboards are not as bright as a modern car, but bright enough. I
don't like a bright dash anyway, I feel it interferes with my night vision
(don't get me started on the blinding blue/white light of modern car
headlights).

My W116 dash is all or nothing right now, it works with the brightness at max
but any other setting it's totally dark. The rheostat is probably dirty.

Re: [MBZ] This is Close to Dream Car

2023-05-17 Thread Allan Streib via Mercedes
It may have improved but the problem with LEDs in the dash used to be they emit
a very directional light. Dash lighting depends on light reflecting from the
edges, or passing through diffusers or "light pipes". With LEDs, you might get
spotty lighting, or even very little because the bulbs are not pointing the
right way. With incandescent bulbs that wasn't an issue because they cast light
in all directions.

I think it would be very difficult to tell if you had put LED bulbs into the
dash other than the dash being easier to read.

I've never driven a 115 but the 123 cars definitely benefit from LED dash bulbs.

I did it in both of my 240Ds. The only pain point was that the sockets are
keyed yet the LEDs will only work when plugged in one way and IIRC you have to
put the pod in to test it.

The LEDs gave the brightness of xenon bulbs without melting the housing. A
definite improvement on a 123 car. I never bothered on a 201 as their dash
brightness was better to begin with. I don't know about the older cars.

I like that. I always wanted a 60's XJ6 but have been smart enough to
not buy one. It is too small and I don't want whatever the brand is but
I like the styling.

I like the PT Cruiser but have not had one of those either.
I don't like the little Chevy whatever that was similar as much but I
liked it too.

I liked the 40 Ford kit on the VW bug.
