Once again it appears I most likely have a dead Arnott suspension pump.
The last one was installed in March. It did blow the fuse once in that
time but has been fine since. Wife took the GL to town, came out of

the ground before that. Yesterday I did a full service on it with
oil/air/fuel filters and it was fine then. Fuse is not blown, pump just
does not appear to be running. Car can sit for weeks and never drop.
There are no leaks that I can find. Somebody on one of the forums said
something about the connectors at the pump being bad and causing the
fuse to blow, and replacement connectors are available. I guess I will
have to get it into the shop and see what is going on. I don’t
understand how these pumps keep going bad on a leak free system.

These guys make my head hurt. They never clean the thing before they start
messing with it, and just start trying to start the engine without any
lubricants being squirted in the cylinders or heads. Not a good idea with
something that has been sitting for many years.

It’s interesting to see them get the cars running but I really wonder what
damage they might do

Re: [MBZ] 1991 Mercedes Motor Coach - 55k miles - $33,000

2023-07-04 Thread G Mann via Mercedes
It is very likely the chassis is of the vintage OP quoted, and that it was
given a motorhome conversion and registered as a "motorcoach" in 1991, thus
giving it a new year and registration that does not match the actual year
of chassis manufacturer..
Not an uncommon practice by many states in registering motorhome
conversions..

Well not the compressor, it tests fine, no leaks between compressor and valve
block. It fails the test for charge valve to central reservoir, and non of the
struts will lift. I think its suddenly developed a big leak to the reservoir,
or the reservoir is leaking, or the new valve block is bad.

Yeah I ordered two, but was in a bit of a rush I guess and only replaced the
one. Did the other side this afternoon.

How are the mounts? Mine are shot, and I think the pump wobbling around while
driving is why the air line popped out on mine. I just received new ones that
I'm going to install as soon as I can.

FCP Euro lists Arnott as aftermarket and Wabco as OE, only $40 more. Is there a
difference?

[MBZ] A happy 4th airmatic compressor failure

2023-07-04 Thread Kaleb Striplin via Mercedes
Once again it appears I most likely have a dead Arnott suspension pump. The
last one was installed in March. It did blow the fuse once in that time but has
been fine since. Wife took the GL to town, came out of store and it was sitting
on the ground. Most likely it was almost on the ground before that. Yesterday I
did a full service on it with oil/air/fuel filters and it was fine then. Fuse
is not blown, pump just does not appear to be running. Car can sit for weeks
and never drop. There are no leaks that I can find. Somebody on one of the
forums said something about the connectors at the pump being bad and causing
the fuse to blow, and replacement connectors are available. I guess I will have
to get it into the shop and see what is going on. I don’t understand how these
pumps keep going bad on a leak free system.

Definitely.

I paid $6k for a 2003 with 118k, documented one owner, about two years ago.
Even considering the tradeoff of mileage versus age, it's still a tall ask.

The problems with the balance shaft and idler gear were solved by 2008. If
you're looking at at 2007 or 2008, check the VIN and engine serial number.
Avoid 2004-2006.

I can't vouch for the M272 otherwise, as I've never owned one.

Re: [MBZ] Used Mercedes Sedans

2023-07-04 Thread Randy Bennell via Mercedes
I am sure he could but I don't know that he will. His name is Paul and
he is trained as a lawyer but is not currently practicing. He moved from
Toronto to  Halifax, Nova Scotia to help care for aging parents who have
now both passed away. He has been talking to an independent repair shop
run by an immigrant from Ukraine. The shop owner has convinced him that a
used Mercedes is the best thing to buy and will apparently watch for one
for him at local auctions.
Paul asked my opinion and I couldn't remember enough about what you
folks have said is desirable or to be avoided.

Thus my question to you all on the list.

Randy

I know you folks talk about this sort of thing often but I have not

Can he import a 1998-2002 E320 4Matic from the southern edge of the

[MBZ] cheap aux battery and NOT cheap H8

2023-07-04 Thread Floyd Thursby via Mercedes
The aux battery in the 05E320 wagon kakked, and the aux battery in the
$400E500 was missing, so I ordered 2 of these cheap batteries for those
cars.  They are the right size (or same size as what was in the wagon)
so I will see if they work OK.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09F8LSBVP

I also bought a new H8 Interstate battery at Costco yesterday.  It was
NOT cheap but Costco are easy to deal with.
