After waiting for the Kroil to take effect, I rapped the end of the
bleeder screw lightly with my small hammer and tried the vise-grips again.
After a couple of tries, it broke loose.

So now I can take both of the rear bleeder screws to a parts store and
see if I can get a good bleeder screw.

IIRC, heat also helps loosen rusted threads, though I guess the Kroil will burn 
off now if you hit it with a torch. Could make a mess of things. If it comes to 
it, if it breaks off, drill it out and use an "EZ-out" (or whatever they call 
those things) to get it out and replace it with a new bleeder valve.

[MBZ] 12GL450 v 09GL350CDI

I have an opportunity to get a 2009 GL350CDI for $5k. Has been gone through and a lot of engine stuff and major electronics changed out. 180kmi if I recall. Black/black reasonably specced and in good condition. Tow hitch. Needs a transfer case chain which is a fairly simple inexpensive repair. Looks like it has a bit more torque than the GL450. The GL450 has 280kmi and torque converter clutches are juddering and intermittent CEL for the intake manifold. Works mostly ok though the juddering is somewhat annoying. I need to do a tranny fluid change and see if that helps. I got it for $4k so could probably get at least that for it. I’m thinking I’m gonna make the swap. If it were mine, I would remove the hood star, the leather strap over 
the hood and the fake exhaust pipes. Then it might not look silly.

Having sat for so long disused it will need a lot of parts and sorting to 
resurrect it to being reliably usable. Time and dineros but doable. At which 
point it might be worth??? given being essentially “new” but 30yo or whatever.  
Or just leave it as-is and call it a survivor, like a museum piece because 
driving it more would then begin to diminish its value as such.  I suppose 
there is a market for such a car but no idea what someone would pay.
