That’s not bad, I like the colors. No mention of what the salvage title is

Very credible. My 2014 eClass bluetec routinely gets 45. The S-Class
bluetec sedan was last sold in 2013 and is quite rare, highly desirable,
and priced accordingly.

I’ve bought cheap cams off Amazon at different times for $25-50. They have
lighter plugs usually with another usb plug or two. You need some micro SD
cards too. They work OK. There are dozens of different types with different
features. A lot of them seem to be the same basic chinee design.

Re: [MBZ] OT weirdness -- 1983 Fairmont a-4,$2,000

2023-11-26 Thread Floyd Thursby via Mercedes
I (sorta) worked for an old crusty guy called "Baldy" at the airport for
awhile during college.  He was about 5ft tall and about as wide and
liked to smoke/chew big green cigars and really did not like college
boys.  He was apparently well known among the aviation community for
reasons I never understood, but people would ask about him.  I was
sitting one day in the office in the hangar at his desk that he kept
locked. I had the fuel truck key and tried it in the lock which for some
reason opened with the truck key. It was full of porn mags which I
thought was pretty funny.  I guess he passed his slow time reading...

One evening I had to dig a plane out of the very back of the hangar for
some guy so I took the opportunity to repack the hanger with maybe 15
planes since nothing else was going on and it was a nice summer
evening.  I got them in there pretty good and had room for a couple
more.  I think my dad had brought me some supper and hung around
spotting to help me get them organized.  Next afternoon I came to work
and he chewed my ass for packing them in too tight, he had to move one
from somewhere in the back and it took him like an hour to get it out.
He was both pissed and somewhat in awe I think that I was able to do
that.  After a bit of cussing at me and chewing on my ass he asked how I
had managed to do that all by myself.  I thought for a few seconds and
said "Because I'm good?" and that really set him off.  It was pretty
funny, I loved getting him worked up.  I was, and he knew it, so I
stayed around.

Moving railcars around was a facet of my initial job at the old nuke plant back
in the ‘80s. I got qualified on a Trackmobile since it was “less contrary” than
the old Fairmont the old-timers preferred.

Re: [MBZ] O.T. This Will Keep You Busy, Swen.

2023-11-26 Thread G Mann via Mercedes
Volvo B18 turbo was a rare add feature, available from factory special
order in the 1978 era.
Since the engine is high compression [by turbo standards] the total boost
it is allowed to make is limited to keep things like head gaskets and
pistons from self destruction. Thus, available only as a "total kit".
I have one. New, never installed, complete. Bought it to install on the 220
GT Volvo [quite rare model] that I've started to restore, but put under
wraps and pushed to the end of the list. One owner car, perfect body, yada
yada.. owned in AZ and NV , Zero rust, etc..
There you have it.

I still have one of those correct chrome tips in my parts stash. I think I paid

I worked with a guy who was a hardcore collector of Kaiser-Fraziers, and one of
the centerpieces of his collection (he had about 8-10 of these things in a big
steel building on his property) was a 1953 “Allstate”, which was a
brand-labeled Kaiser-Frazier sold and marketed by Sears, Roebuck.

They weren’t quite at the “bathtub” stage of automotive design, but they were
close. Cool cars.

Your spidey sense is good, weedhopper. The price is unrealistic, especially in
a market like Show Low - you can’t get much more rural than that.

As there are undisclosed “issues”, the price should be even lower depending on
the severity of said issues.

Too bad, it’s a nice-looking car based on what can be seen in the pictures.
I’ve always been a sucker for that cream color on the W126s, too.

I know why it’s like that…

You can’t get the proper MB factory tailpipe chrome tip, as it’s been NLA for a
number of years. There are some alternatives, which is what I suspect they have
used, or an exhaust guy got carried away??

I still have one of those correct chrome tips in my parts stash. I think I paid
$17 for it about eight years ago.

Beautiful car, love the color. Interior wood needs refinishing and the
headliner replaced. For $30k+, these should have been done. It’s a mid-teens
car on a good day on BaT maybe. Possibly $20k if they’re living right.

That car has been sitting unloved and outside for way too long in AZ. the

a major rebuild effort.. Still, something of a rare model..
If you have the shop floor space to take it on.

Re: [MBZ] OT Medicare Questions

2023-11-26 Thread G Mann via Mercedes
Welcome to Medicare.
It is a total system devised to be so complicated that no individual can
truly understand it, under the color of law, not the principles, and voted
on by elected persons who were elected using funds and influence owned by
huge mega rich pharma companies who have armies of lawyers to write
deliberately confusing rules and wrinkles, then defend any actions they
take, while you, the aged individual with limited resources to fight them
are kept helpless to oppose any decision they make, or action they take.
200 years ago, their business ancestors built and sold a device that pumped
tobacco smoke up the patient's anus and claimed massive curative powers,
while charging massive money [the basis for the common phrase "blowing
smoke up your ass"]. When it was finally proven that it produced no health
improvement, they dissolved that company and practice and produced a new
"miracle cure" to sell to the public. Repeat that pattern to present day,
just make it more involved and expensive [and less obvious].
They exist only to take your money and extend your life until all money is
gone, while double dipping from public money, wherever possible.
You exist only to try to live as long and as well as you can, against all
odds and obstacles if possible.
Is it a fair game? You decide..
Semi Sarcastic Rant over.

For those of you out there who do have prescriptions and are using Part D, are
there any pitfalls to avoid?

I’m lucky in that my mother-in-law, who is 85 going on 86, has been doing this
for a while, so she’s been helpful with navigating things. We will have
prescriptions, that I am sure of, so Part D may not be optional for us.

I would be curious to know how people are navigating the world of
pharmaceuticals/prescription drugs and what’s necessary to avoid getting gouged.
