[MBZ] Mobil one oil question

2006-08-20 Thread W. Lasher
I think DrB answered it last week. 15W-50 does not have the soot carrying
and acid neutralizing capacity of heavy duty diesel truck oil, but it
far exceeds the needs of an OM603, and it mixes just fine with the diesel
truck rated 5w40, so go ahead and buy three qts of it. I've got a couple
of 5 qt jugs of the old 15w50 on hand for my 300SD.

Ok, thanks Mitch, the key words were, “far exceeds the needs of an
OM603, and it mixes just fine with the diesel truck rated 5w40”
I just wanted to reconfirm that. I plan on returning to Delo 400
after that (unless someone buys my 5qt jug of 5W-40 between now and when I’m
due for a change)

[MBZ] Mobil one oil question

2006-08-19 Thread W. Lasher
I have 5 qts of M-1 Truck and SUV 5w-40 and I want to get another 3 qts to
mix with it for the next oil change.
What I found was M-1 15-50, now it is a CF rating but NOWHERE on the bottle
does it say ANYTHING about being a Diesel. Now I know a CF rating is a
Diesel rating but why don’t they say so on the bottle? Just makes me wonder,
can someone clarify it for me?

[MBZ] Mobil one oil question

2006-08-19 Thread W. Lasher
Walt,
did you hit Schucks? the august calendar coupon is for M1 @ $3.99.

Yes, as a matter of fact I did. THREE of them. NONE had M-1 Diesel oil.
They were recommending another oil for Diesel because of this.
My original question was (more or less) is M-1 15-50 an approved
Diesel and can I mix 3 qts of it with my old Truck SUV 5w-40 oil?
I will be going back to Delo 400 anyway. I think M-1 went the
same way as Classic Coke when it changed. Lost a lot of sales

[MBZ] Bio-Diesel info for Snohomish County, Washington State

2006-07-22 Thread W. Lasher
MARYSVILLE - This town has become a destination for those looking for
cleaner-burning fuel.
Marysville is now home to Snohomish County's only pump with B99, a blend of
99 percent biodiesel from vegetable oils and 1 percent petroleum diesel, in
addition to a whole station full of pumps carrying a 20-percent biodiesel
blend.
The B99 pump opened Friday at American Distributing Co.
Steve Miller, owner of American Distributing, said he opened the pump to
cater to people who want a biodiesel blend more concentrated than B20, which
is available at nearby Donna's Truck Stop.
We kind of see it as fitting a special niche, he said.
Nationwide, biodiesel consumption increased from 25 million gallons in 2004
to 75 million gallons last year, according to the National Biodiesel Board.
Miller only sees demand increasing in the future, he said.
We kind of compare it to opening a disco club, Miller said. If you opened
up at the beginning of the era, you made a mint. You have to get your foot
in the door early.
Consumers are starting to recognize the benefits of biodiesel and seek it
out, said Justin Clements, a marketing manager for Whole Energy, a
Bellingham-based wholesale supplier of biodiesel.
In addition to generally burning cleaner than petroleum fuels, biodiesel can
be locally produced, reducing dependence on foreign oil supplies, Clements
said.
Since it is a domestic-produced fuel, it's supporting a cleaner industry,
but also a domestic industry, Clements said. We're supporting our own.

[MBZ] My W140 gets a clean bill of health

2006-05-12 Thread W. Lasher
The local MB dealer offered a FREE check up so I made an
appointment. Everything was running ok but I just figured I would see what
he could find wrong, well he did…The rear fog light was out. They just
exchanged the bulb with the other side since doesn’t need a double filament
on that side. They did mention I was getting close to brake pads but that
was all. Oh yes, they did fill my little squirt bottle.
Took a ride in the new “E” class Diesel while I was there,
peppy little thing.
To the gentleman who compared the 126 with the 140. I have
had both. The 126 is a great car, easy to work on, easy on the pocketbook
and a classy looker.
The W140 has more junk to fail and not as easy to work on, but when I put my
foot to the floor it WILL pin you back in your seat, unknown in any Diesel I
have owned to this point. It does give me 30 MPG on the road (800 mile legs)
and a real pleasure to drive. I have spent 33 straight hours in the 140 and
came out rested, a real pleasure to drive. True, I have had everything
replaced, except for the rearview mirror and fuel cap, BUT after that being
said……A GREAT car :-)

[MBZ] Diesel fuel and Jet Fuel

2006-03-04 Thread W. Lasher
Au Contraire, Mr. Booher and Mr. Cathey. Diesels are back in aviation.
There are several STC’s for Diesels in single engine aircraft (maybe multi’s
too, but I haven’t read about it yet), and it looks as if will take off (no
pun intended). You’ll be seeing more and more on this in the aviation game.
And as far as Jet engines go the French engines in the old Alouette II
helicopters would fly on just about anything. I have used bunker fuel out of
the boat I was on and Mogas (regular gas) was restricted to 50 hours and you
could burn Diesel everyday of the week.

[MBZ] Yes Curt..your right

2006-02-28 Thread W. Lasher
*Scratches head* Walt, I agree that oil is cheaper than metal, but if the
oil
isn't used up what possible advantage could you get in changing it early?

 Curt: Well… can’t hurt….besides I use a mileage or time limit. If I
don’t get to the mileage I would change it at 3 months anyway. 2000 or 90
days.

Oh, heres one, would you get rid of the milk in the fridge just because it
was
old? If it hasn't gone bad theres nothing wrong with it and nothing
to be gained from getting rid of it early...

Your right. But then again I treat my car better than I treat myself

I'm talking about your short change Delo here, I'm with you on your Mobil
1
change rate.

Your right, I just happen to come from the old school and 2000 (or 3000
if I was doing long trips like to LAX and Back, 1300 miles) on oil changes
was the rule.
Also, I was doing this before I did the oil analyses, shortly after
that I changed to M1.
Back when I was younger (and married) I would change the oil in the
main car (at 2000) and let it sit in a jug and use it in the old car. So
THEN I was using it to the max. That was prior to owning Mercedes tho’

[MBZ] ok, all this talk about M1 has me wondering

2006-02-27 Thread W. Lasher
I’m with Marshall on this one. I tested my new 603 engine 4
times and at 5000 miles I came up with 1.8% on the soot with M1 and the way
I drive.
Just as a point of reference, before I changed to M1 I was using
Delo 400 and was changing at 2000 miles and in all those tests
at the 2000 mile mark my soot level was between 0.1 and 0.2%.
Yes, I know OVERKILL……But oil is cheaper than metal and I like to change
oil.
