[MBZ] ,92 600SEL
OK - I see that many on the list would love to have that MB SUV. No interest personally, as I am quite happy with my 300SD and don't need such a thing. BUT, what does make me drool is something like this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItemih=005sspagename= STRK%3AMEWA%3AITviewitem=item=150135362950rd=1,1 ih=005sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AITviewitem=item=150135362950rd=1,1 - not for me, but for my darling wife. 98k miles and I am sure everything is just like they say - near showroom... OK, I'm not that gullible. I also notice this same car sold on eBay just a few weeks ago. Wonder what happened? The left good feedback for the buyer, but still have the car. Donald - I still plan to buy that 300SEL you have if it is available, but I gotta tell you, if this one were to stay within a reasonable price range I'd jump on it - and probably regret it later. BillR, I had that dream too and then I came across this. Now it's a nightmare. Re: [MBZ] ,92 600SEL
Thanks John - that is exactly what I need to see. I had suspected, and this illustrates, that such a vehicle [$128 - 138k new ?] was meant for folks with live-in mechanics or DEEP pockets, neither of which I have. As I can only do the really simple stuff myself at this point [changing out the rear lock actuators was about the limit for me] I have to view doing that stuff at $85 an hour. I have a good mechanic, but even so That is one car I suspect is best kept as a dream and not turned into a nightmare. Now if I should win the lottery... Re: [MBZ] ,92 600SEL
On a 1992 600SEL it takes 15 minutes to RR the oil filter including removing the Air Filter Box, MAF and finding the Mercedes oil filter wrench/socket. Changed plugs today - 30 minutes. Back is screaming in pain from being bent over the motor. I KNOW that isn't on my list of rehab exercises from the doctor. As long as I can stand straight by the time the wife gets home from work I'm golden. Changed the transmission filter last week. That took two hours. An hour longer than normal. Got stuck on the ground and couldn't get up. Re: [MBZ] ,92 600SEL
Nice cars. We have one. Amazing car. The motor has 402 hp not 386. It goes from 0-60 in 6 seconds. In town it needs to be driven in 3rd else the motor never gets over 1300rpm and carbons up the motor. Unfortunately the carbon gets into the oil system and plugs one of the touchy lifters. Sea Foam seems to have cleared it up. Car has Bio-degradeable wiring harness's under the hood as well as the ETA that have potentiometer issues as well. Depending on where the car lived you may or may not need an evaporator. In addition to the wiring at 99kmi plan on doing the rear accumulators, trans filter and hoses. At 125kmi start planning on doing the timing chain, valve stem seals and guides. Oh yeah pulling away from a Red Light when it goes green STILL puts a smile on my face. It's the 70's all over again but with air bags and ABS. I agree - although I'd like a MB SUV with a diesel engine ;-) - that V12 W140 is at the top of my list when I win the lottery - until then, fergetaboutit. Way to expensive maintanence IMHO. And I'd prefer a W140 over the newest S class - the design of which I find odd. There's a similar car in local newpaper 93(?) 600SEL with bad engine LOL course, dropping a diesel 2.5 turbo would be interesting - not fast, perhaps not economical because it'd be running in turbo mode constantly, but it would be cheap to maintain - engine-wise at least - that bio-degradable wiring harness is such a scream! But perhaps they meant well. LOL They're asking $500 OBO - Hey!! I've got a 89 van that won't sell (has wheelchair lift) with a 5.0L V8 - that would be nice in that 600! Later! I do not find any of the new Mercedes attractive or interesting. The S-class just looks blah, about like a Honda or something. Re: [MBZ] ,92 600SEL
I have to say, I really like the new S Class. I looked at a new one, and also the coupe. I think there was a big step forward in build quality over the last S, from what I could see in 20 minutes anyway. The previous one, (the one after the W140) was cheap junk to me. You could see the spot welds through the paint on the ones I saw on the inner door. I ran my hand over one once and cut my finger!! I thought it was a one off, but then looked on other cars, and saw the same quality. I also found it really uncomfortable. The only thing I don't like about the new S is that AMG seem to be going a little overboard with the add ons. Are they trying to woe the kids who buy Honda civics? Glad to see they are getting back on track with quality. It was kind of sad to watch them over the past several years. Now, if they could just get that proper thud in the doors back. :-) Ed 300E On 25/06/07, Kaleb C. Striplin [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: I do not find any of the new Mercedes attractive or interesting.
