So it passed through a rubber gromit or something? Thanks Peter, I'll have
a look around tomorrow, or tonight with a light if I can't sleep.

The electrical connector is under the carpet on the passenger side
front floor. Sensor is in front of the catalytic convertor, on top.

Re: [MBZ] 02 sensor?? Where?

2007-07-22 Thread E M
I had a look around the exhaust manifold with no luck, tried to find a wire
to trace ect. I checked on Rusty's site and I think he has them for about
$100 or so, and I think that's with the wire and exact fit, so no splicing
or anything. I have one of those sockets with a slit in the side, that
allows the wire to fit through. You have to remove it and readjust it so
the wire doesn't get to twisted, but they work well.

I bought a meter to read dwell and the 02 seems ok, in that you can see it
work, but I've read that as they age, they can appear to work, but they work
slower in making adjustments. The car was rich enough too when I first to
it, that I fear a lot of the crap has gone down stream and probably gummed
things up a little. Well, it's on the list of things to change, so I know
I've done the work and if future problems come up, I can rule it out. The
car does have lots of miles and I don'tknwo when it was last changed. I've
seen them on other cars with over 100K and still perfect.

thanks Hendrik.

Re: [MBZ] 02 sensor?? Where?

2007-07-22 Thread Hendrik Riessen
Well yes you can change it, or you can test it to see if it is working.
Genuine MB sensors are expensive but aftermarket ones can be used.
If you are really keen to chnage it, have a look at your exhaust system,
usually it is just in front of the cat (alytic converter) or it could be
closer to the exhaust manifold. It should have a shield around it and
require a 22 mm(?) ring spanner to undo and they are usually VERY tight so
make sure you get a real good grip on it.
The procedure is to undo the wiring to the O2 sensor and then feed the wires
through the ring spanner, make sure you use a combination spanner so you can
get another large spanner onto the 22 mm one. It is NOT advisable to use a
hammer to whack the spanner.

[MBZ] 02 sensor?? Where?

2007-07-22 Thread E M
Hi Everyone,

Have fun waxing and just playing with the 300E today. Was thinking of
changing the 02 sensor just as a maintance thing as I don't know when it was
last done and the car has miles. Think I can find the thing!!! anyway,
it's an '88 300E gasser. Where should I look?

Thanks,
