<< Thanks for the reply Ned ! 360k !! WOW ! Is that without any rebuilds ?>>

VIK:

No rebuilds on engine or transmission. Only things I recall replacing on
the engine are the fuel injectors, glow plugs, vacuum pump, exhaust system
with cat (ouch) and maybe water pump / belts / hoses type stuff. Nothing
else except recommended maintenance items.

Now the chassis - is a different story. It is starting to rust and having
problems with the brakes, sunroof, air conditioning etc etc.

I guess you are talking about the pump end of the injection lines. I've been
fortunate enough to have never had that problem.
My 606 engines are in the last 124 body series. One copy has >360,000 mi,
and the other has about 162,000 mi.

Thanks Ned ,
I had planned to replace those anyway, but I'm seeing the leak originating from
the top of the IP
where the metal lines connect. Do any of yours leak from there?
How many miles do yours have?
Mine has 197200 miles.
Thanks again for the response.

Vic:
I have 2 of the '95 E300D's with 606 engines. I believe they are
mechanically very similar to your 96.
Over the last couple of years, both of mine developed annoying fuel leaks.
There are about 5 plastic and rubber fuel lines between the fuel filters,
fuel heater, FI pump and injectors. All those hoses have o-rings on both
ends. One at a time, every one of those o-rings will start to leak. Just
buy all the o-rings from Rusty and an intake manifold gasket. Then take the
intake manifold off and replace all the o-rings. Not a difficult job. It's
cheap and solves the problem.

2007-09-24 Thread dave walton
If it has the same pop-on plastic connectors as my 99 E300, there is
an o-ring on the fuel connection to the Injector pump that often leaks
and needs to be replaced. You have to slide the white plastic clip to
the side before you pull up to remove the connector. On the part that
came lose there is an o-ring. That's it. The unfortunate part of the
story is that you need to remove the intake manifold to get to things.
Since I did mine, I've been told that there are other connections that
will leak and cause air to be sucked into the system. If I were doing
it again, I'd replace all the o-rings I could find.
