It takes a good solid day (8 hours) to remove and install the hydraulics. That is, a total of two days. It’s not difficult work, but it’s time consuming and involves removing a lot of trim panels and such. The guy in Oregon, Klaus of Top Hydraulics, will rebuild the full set of cylinders and locks for about $800 last time I checked. He often turns them around the same day or next, so it’s not unrealistic to pull them off, ship them to him via USPS Priority mail, and get them back in the car within a week. I had a convertible top repair shop guy tell me that if he had one R129 a month to do he could pay his bills. He said he had done a lot of them Dan you know about the cylinders in these tops. Not only that, they’ve replaced the soft top just a couple years ago, which is a major expense and not an easy DIY job. I’ve done it on other cars, but I don’t think I would do it on an R129. Very nice and a heck of a deal for someone who wants an R129. One of the final years and has the “Sport” package, which is fairly rare. No issues to speak of with these. From the description it has a hydraulic leak on the left top lock, a real easy one to change and not expensive to have rebuilt, however, if the top lock is leaking and the rest of the system is original it’s going to need a full hydraulic system rebuild. Not a big deal, lots of labor. About $800 for a complete set of rebuilt cylinders and locks. They probably got this news and it’s influenced their ask.
