night then drove to St. Augstine where i delivered the machine. THen i
turned around and drove directly back to Athens. This was about 850 miles,
all driven on WVO that i was hauling. Speed was mostly indicated 60 to 70
mph with the AC blowing cold cold most all the trip. I didn't even use any
oil. The car performed flawlessly as it should!

It's CRAZY how many deer there are on the back roads of Georgia in the
middle of the night between folkston, ga and athens, ga. I probably saw 15
but there were probably another 30 that i didn't see! THe grass was tall
enough to hide a deer on the shoulders of the road after the recent rains.
After about midnight, i was often the only vehicle for miles going in
either direction. Other than a few trucks, i saw almost no one for long
 stretches of time.

 thanks,

Most of the deer strikes here (NC piedmont) seem to happen in the fall. We
live on a country road (50 mph+) and occasionally find a dead deer in the
front yard. I never actually weighed one but I do use the loader on the
tractor to carry them deep into the woods. Personally, I use those deer
whistles on my highway cars. Go ahead and laugh but I've never hit a deer.

[MBZ] 300td travel

2012-10-17 Thread Rick Hawkins Java

Folks

last nite i drove the reassembled 300td from athens to tybee island,
about 240 miles.

The trip was uneventful till about 1/2 mile out of downtown savannah,
on I-16 my RR tire let me down. It had about 80% tread, but was
probably an older one. The tire had two punctures a couple of months
ago and i had them repaired inside the tire.

Anyway, since there was no traffic, i changed the tire on the side of
a bridge in about 10min

The inner sidewall had a slit from rim to the edge of the tire

Other than that, the trip was uneventful and my repaired oil cooler
lines didn't leak a drop

i've just done some epic travel in my 82 300td.

Two weeks ago, i dragged a 1500 lb letterpress from athens, ga to

Then last weekend, i dragged a 1050 lb press from athens to Tulsa, ok,
delivered that. Then i went to OK City and picked up another 1050 lb press
and dragged it back to athens. Two days later, i drove 240 miles down to
 Tybee Island, GA.

All of this was done running WVO. I hauled all the fuel along, as well.

It was unexpectedly cold in OK on Sunday (not in the forecast), so i put
in a few gallons of diesel and about a gallon of gas to lower the viscosity.

No real problems at all on any of the trips. I even ran the AC on part of
the OK trip, but my heater was erratic . it would come on for a few
minutes and then go cold ideas? mono valve? something else

I did resolder the heater control a few years ago

Yes, i have a lot to be thankful for.

Do 124's have monovalves?  I don't own one.

You do too! Isn't there a 124 wagon in your back forty?

They sort of do. There's a heater control valve, opened and closed
variably by a PWM signal from the PBU, if I am not totally confused.

Sheesh - I have a letter press in Norman, OK that I need to get rid of. I
have no use for it, and have to move it before I can sell that house. When

Yes, i have a lot to be thankful for.
 thanks,

 xx rick

How hard is it to move the thing to a place that will pay you ten to twenty
cents a pound for scrap steel?

True enough. But I have obviously never tried to get

Could that also be the case with a 124 with the same symptoms?

Do 124's have monovalves? I don't own one. I know 201's don't
have them. They, and late 126's don't have an override on the
MIN/MAX detents, the brain is in charge at all times.
