Re: [MBZ] Accident

Subrogation is good, but I have learned the need for police reports, a call to
an attorney right off, take all medical care offered or needed, and do not talk
to opposing side unless my lawyers is talking. Speeds my side right up and
slows the other guy from bending me over.

Re: [MBZ] Accident

2019-12-04 Thread Peter Frederick via Mercedes
Lol, I got hit in my old 87 300D in the driver's door by a work van (Chevy 3500
series, fully loaded). Broke the starter off the engine, punched the strut up
through the still attached mount, bent the strut 45 degrees, and pushed the
front of the driver's door in over a foot.

The other three doors open and close, although the front passenger door is now
half an inch proud of the frame.

I put it in park (engine still running and car still rolling under power), took
the seat belt off, and climbed over the console and exited via the front
passenger door.

Quite the ride.

the driver's door from opening more than a third of the way (getting out was a

some vast number of options, which I think were actually standard.

The only problem with State Farm was that the first people I worked with said
that I had to get the video from the external cameras on the parking structure
that I was turning into. Mall security said they only turned over recordings to

My only injury was skin scrapped off the back of my right hand, apparently by
the rough surface of the steering wheel airbag. I had some lower back stiffness
in the afternoon, buy it went away by bedtime. Then the muscles connecting my
neck to my shoulders (sides) just really stuff and sore overnight and I had to
take some ibuprofen in the middle of the night. However, that was gone by
morning. I did feel my brain bounce around a little inside my skull during the
acceleration from the impact, but not the slightest sign of concussion.

Overall, I'm really, really pleased with the crash safety of the Prius.

The big frustration of all this? The other guy wouldn't talk to State Farm and
his insurance company didn't even respond to State Farm! So, the whole thing is
still in subrogation and I'm still waiting and hoping to get my deductible back.

Subrogation is a wonderful thing in a case like this. I’ve had two situations
where the person who cause the accident’s insurer refused to communicate, for
whatever reason I have no idea. In both cases I covered the deductible, and in
both cases I got reimbursed after 4-6 months when my insurer went after their
insurance company.

I was confident that I would in both cases, as they were clearly the fault of
the other driver.

Notice how people in crashes never seem to know there's a perfectly good door
on the other side of the car?
My 190D turbo's RF door was latched closed after the crash, but after a 16 year
old girl managed to force it open, it'll never again be within 6" of closed.
