I tried it tonight. The 165/15 tire did not fit in the spare tire
well. So I guess I need to get a 155 tire for the spare. It will be a
bit like the donut spare in a modern car I guess. The overall diameter
on the 155 tire is about 0.6" smaller as well.

Thanks for mentioning this, I would have never considered that the spare
tire well was that tight.

Actually I checked again and Tirerack has that same tire in the 155
size. So, I guess I could use that as a spare if necessary, and keep the
165 as the main tires for a slightly bigger contact patch.

It has 165R15 tires now. No "ratio" number as in modern tire sizes. They
are quite old so even though the tread depth is good, I do see a little
bit of sidewall cracking and I am thinking of replacing them sooner
rather than later. I can't find a DOT date code on them either.

I only see one new tire choice that matches that size, it's a summer
tire (which would be fine; I have no intention of driving the Ghia in
the winter salt).

https://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=Vredestein&tireModel=Sprint+Classic&partnum=6HR5SC&vehicleSearch=false&fromCompare1=yes

I think the "modern" equivalent size is 165/75-R15, which doesn't result
in any other choices, at least at tirerack.com.

Good point about checking the fit --- I'll pull one of the wheels off
and see if it fits in the spare well. Might be the reason that the spare
was missing!

What size tires are you using on your Ghia? It would be a good idea to verify
that they fit in your spare tire "well". I seem to remember that the stock
size is 560/15 but 600/15 were a popular oversize. Nowadays 155 versus 165.
Anyways the larger size did not fit in the spare tire well of the VW bugs I am
not sure about the Ghia's.

Some sort of special edition or special order or something?? Looks
original though, and kinda nice. Get the VIN and see what it says

The VIN was in the ad, so I looked it up on lastvin.com. It shows:
