Re: [MBZ] Brake line flush
I'd only use brake fluid; anything that doesn't move when you flush with brake fluid will not move once the system is back together. -Max From: Fmiser To: mercedes@okiebenz.com Sent: Sun, December 12, 2010 6:53:25 PM Subject: [MBZ] Brake line flush Actually, "clutch line", not "brake line" this time - but I'm thinking about brakes too. So I'm about to replace the clutch master and slave cylinder (parts in route from Rusty). So while I have the cylinders off the line, I was thinking it could be a good idea to flush any rust, crud, etc. Any suggestions on a suitable fluid? Water? I'm concerned about getting it _all_ out before the real stuff goes back in. Brake fluid? Will it dissolve any of the crud? Denature alcohol? Acetone? Diesel/kerosene? Re: [MBZ] Brake line flush
No prob. I just get disgusted every time I find swollen hoses, overheating brakes, worn out pads, and ruined calipers due to someone putting dot3 fluid in. It is so easy to avoid, so I try to warn people off it. In this day and age, I don't think anyone who owns a MB should have any dot 3 around. Many other brands use Dot 4 also. It will even help your mitsu. My bad, I'm used to Mitsubishi's DOT3 for all rule. Walt On Dec 12, 2010 7:21 PM, "Dieselhead" <126die...@gmail.com> wrote: Close, but off by one digit. Don't put DOT3 brake fluid in, even for flushing. It swells the rubber and you will be buying new hose when the clutch won't return. ONLY USE DOT 4 on MB brake and clutch systems. (unless you convert to DOT 5. I think you would be ok getting the spray cans of brake parts cleaner, then flush with fluid and refiil. Only Dot3, or you'll be replacing every line. Get a few pints at the dollar mart and use them to flush, then flush in the good stuff.
