I have the April 1985 edition (for 123 cars), and the '87 and '93(?)

Actually, they’re called a “TDM”, or Technical Data manual, and they have
details on specifications for a range of models and years. The depth of the
information in the TDMs is almost frightening. They were published every few
years and would cover a range of chassis and years, typically inclusive, such
as the whole W123 chassis range along with other chassis’ models of the same
vintage.

Wonderful little books to have when you need some obscure measurement or torque
value. I had one some years ago and I can recall getting things like ride or
body height measurements out of it.

years.

I probably saw him for the brief time I was on the RE list. that was
probably 1996. Back then the 123 was still new to me. I had no 124 or
126, so no use for his index.

Steve put a tremendous amount of work into that, and he'll still make
improvements if you send him stuff.

I may send him some of this, unless it is buried somewhere on the FSM CD
and I just couldn't find it on his index.

If this is like a W124 sedan ('95 E420), there is an electric fuel pump
and a fuel filter aft of the stern of the transmission starboard of the
driveshaft.

The ignition assemblies are on the port side of the engine compartment on
the fenderwell.

I would carefully hot wire the fuel pump and see if the pump runs to begin.
The terminals are exposed on it, that is, they have a rubber boot over a stud
that you can pull back to put +12VDC to it. The pump and filter are sort of in
tandem in the back of the car on the right side behind the axle. There may
(should) be a plastic shield that surrounds them - it takes a couple of 10mm
self tapping screws to remove to get it off the car and out of the way.

If you get the pump to run by hot wiring it, I guess I would go for the fuel
pup relay next - I believe this model had an FPR. You can “cheat” the circuit
at the socket of the relay to get the pump running, as well as probe the socket
to see if the relay is getting power when the ignition is on.

Guys - any chance the OVP relay could be playing into this?

bad fuel pumps, but owner never authorized repair and then died. Car sat for 2

Today I made some time to test the compression on the M104 engine in the 1995

The service manual says test a hot engine, can't do that, so I put about half
an ounce of oil into each hole prior to testing. Acceptable values are from
145 psi to 203, no more than 21 psi difference.
