[MBZ] DIN instrument panels?

2013-10-26 Thread M. Mitchell Marmel
Anyone know if anyone makes an instrument panel that fits in a radio DIN
slot? It occurs to me that since the old analog phone in my E420 no longer
works, I could scooch the radio into the bottom slot behind the door,
scooch the A/C control panel down into the middle slot and put in some
analog gauges (oil pressure, voltmeter, ammeter) into the top slot...

Thoughts?

The answer seems to be yes, sort of...

You can definitely get plain blank filler DIN panels. People who strip
their cars of unnecessary weight for racing, or replace a factory
double-DIN stereo with an aftermarket single-DIN one, use them. Then cut
your own holes with a plumber's hole saw. Most aftermarket gauges i've
seen are a standard size. 1 3/8 IIRC.

Aha! So it's not a W124.

I have a W124 E420 and never saw any place to move the radio to.
