And the main jet is _under_ the throttle lever so when it is actually at wide open throttle a screwdriver on the needle valve will move the throttle so it's _not_ at wide open throttle! ___ http://www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com

Been a long time, but that sounds about right. Adjust the main under load, if possible. That’s where you’ll get it in the sweet spot. -D > On May 28, 2022, at 4:38 PM, Allan Streib via Mercedes > wrote: > > The engine on my Cub Cadet (Kohler K301A engine) smells like it's running a > little rich. [MBZ] Dan or others: looking for tune-up guide for Kohler engine
The engine on my Cub Cadet (Kohler K301A engine) smells like it's running a little rich. It also sputters or misses occasionally. I've spray-cleaned the carb and run a bit of Techron in the gas the last two times I've used it. The foam sleeve over the paper air filter was pretty dirty so I cleaned that as well. Paper filter looked OK and I have not changed it. Seems about the same. I see two screws, one on top of the carb and one at a 45-degree angle. Online I found this: The top screw is the main jet and the 45-degree screw is the idle fuel. Start by fully seating the screws then 2 1/4 turns out on the main and 1 3/4 on the idle. Then start the engine and let it warm up for a couple of minutes. Idle the tractor down to about 1/8 throttle, and then slam it to full throttle. If the main jet is set correctly, it speed right up to full throttle. If it sputters, backfires, and tries to die, the mixture is too lean. If it stumbles and you see black smoke, it's too rich. If it passes that test, run it at full throttle and slowly richen the mixture until you get either an rpm drop, black smoke and rough running, or both; then slowly lean it again until you get an rpm rise. The peak of the rpm rise is the proper mixture.
