If it was, someone did a really nice job. That pattern and material look like
factory. The pattern is different, which wouldn’t be unusual, but here is the
driver’s seat from my 250LWB with factory velour:

It’s not the velour, it's the seat padding. And believe it or not, speaking
from direct experience, it’s quite easy to deodorize. If you’ve never felt or
sat on this material, it’s quite different from the velour many of us know.
It’s actually sort of rough, believe it or not. It’s quite different from the
velour used for clothing, at least velour clothing I’ve encountered.

Yeah more or less the same thing. I believe there were just minor
timing and carburetion differences.

That engine was also used in the bus. That might be an
interesting car to get. I have a 6 cyl 911 engine with 5 speed
transmission in an 82 bus that would fit into there right easy
and probably make it go just a bit better.

I don't know and I'm too tired/sore (cut up a scrap snowmobile trailer today)

The engine is only a relative cousin to the upright engine in the Beetle

is the same as in the late bus.

The seats do look a tad MBish. Is the engine that is in this similar to the
one in Porsche 912s? I had a friend back in the day claimed he had a 912
engine in his type 4. I could never verify.

My Saab 99 (a very aerodynamic car for its day and mine had a huge factory air
dam in front) would do an honest 200kph with the tach over redline, on 2 liters
and 8 valves. Don't know how fast it would have gone if the power peak coincided
with top speed.

Re: [MBZ] Don't See This Every Day...

2008-06-13 Thread Rich Thomas
There is a Lebanese restaurant here in town, the owners have a big
picture on the wall of Beirut in the 50s, some big square with lots of
cars going around it taken from some tall building, and the father/owner
is in that picture somewhere (he says -- apparently he was the wrestling
champion of Lebanon at that time, and he was doing something official
when the pic was taken). Anyway, the thing I noted is that a bunch of
the cars were Benzes like that one. I talked to the guy about that, he
said lots of the taxis and private cars were Benzes at that time, Beirut
was a very wealthy destination city for Euro types and Middle
Easterners, lots of entertainments not available in other places in
the region.

He lamented that the crazies had taken over, and was very sad for his
country.
