Re: [MBZ] Door Won't Close
Jim was right. I spray lubed the heck out of it and it now is working. Thanks, smart guy. [MBZ] Door Won't Close
The latching hook on my drivers door ('77 300D) has seemingly frozen in the closed position with the door open. The door locking mech still feels like it's working by pulling up/pushing down on the latch. What's wrong? I can't close my door. Bob R -- next part -- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Re: [MBZ] Door Won't Close
The door latch has been triggered with the door open. The latch sort of rotates over and will not pop back up by itself when you operate the release (either inside or outside). To fix it, hold the release open and use a large screwdriver to flip the latch lever open (it closes over a round bar, and opens when you pull on the door). May be a bit stiff, in which case it needs shot of white lithium grease into the mechanism (but NOT the pin that goes into the tapered socked on the body, it will stick terribly!). What happened was that the door was pulled almost closed and then pushed open without using the release, allowing the latch to close. This happens most often when the mechanism is binding from lack of lubrication, otherwise it would have latched. Poor lubrication will also cause the door to bounce rather than latch, too.
