You should drive a truck - I know of two men for sure here who carry a 55 gal. drum in the back of their pick-up to the 100LL pump at KHSD (Sundance airport in OKC) and fill it up. They then drive it here an fill up their aircraft. I went up to the welding shop a coupla years ago and there was this cone-shaped stainless steel thing about 16" diameter with a pipe fitting welded into the top tip of the cone. I have been using 10% ethanol since prior to 1990. Deliberately - as in I look for and choose the pump with the ethanol label. It significantly decreased carburetor maintenance on my cars. I run it in all my small engines too. I do use Seafoam in the 2-stroke mix. My carburetors are still doing fine. The engines start with a couple pulls. I tend to tweak the 2-stroke mixture screws when there is a big change in the weather. Otherwise, they all run fine and work hard. I'm reluctant to mess with what works - but I'm thinking I should at least check the price of 100LL at the airport. Re: [MBZ] How I beat the saw
Maybe so. But the issue is a "rubberized" diaphragm that was produced before the gasohol mandate and which becomes too rigid after years of immersion in fuel mix. It has nothing to do with dirt or gum or varnish. Maybe this would happen anyway with pure gas. But it's not unreasonable to suspect that a material developed for use with one fuel reacted badly to a different fuel. Particularly when we know that alcohol causes some polymers to deteriorate. -Original Message- From: Mercedes [mailto:mercedes-boun...@okiebenz.com] On Behalf Of Dieselhead Sent: Thursday, August 15, 2013 9:22 PM To: Mercedes Discussion List Subject: Re: [MBZ] How I beat the saw > I suspect >this is a casualty of the gasohol we are forced to use. For what it's worth, it seems ALL of these 2-cycle engines use Zama or Walbro carburetors. I planned to rebuild the carb on my Poulan Pro leaf blower but the kit was $12 and a whole new carb was just $23 (guess which one I ordered). My blower got to the point the choke needed to be part-way on for the engine to run. This is a symptom of a stiff lower diaphragm (the one that works the needle valve) in the carb (Zama, by the way). I suspect this is a casualty of the gasohol we are forced to use. -Original Message- From: Mercedes [mailto:mercedes-boun...@okiebenz.com] On Behalf Of Hans Neureiter Sent: Thursday, August 15, 2013 5:46 AM To: Mercedes Discussion List Subject: Re: [MBZ] How I beat the saw Husqvarna bought Poulan On Wed, Aug 14, 2013 at 6:04 PM, Kaleb C.
