Re: [MBZ] Idle change
Hola amigos My 1982 380SEL, 487,000 miles, has a idle speed change. Idles at about 650 then down to about 500 and then back to 650 when hot or cold. Always starts easy and runs down the road just great, mileage still 17 town, 22 highway. New plugs and Bosch wires, and I use a Techron fuel system cleaner on a regular basis. I looked this morning for vacuum leaks, well 1st of all there are not that many places for leaks to develop, didn´t find any, hose connections soft ply able. The electronic idle control box has been changed a couple of time over the life of the car. Suggestions por favor are there any vacuum lines to the tranny? Adios Don Don, when i owned that car, it did that always...that would be about 4-5 years ago...i loved it when that was the only variation, EXCEPT, when the AC was on and the car might die when the idle went too low...i had it looked at twice with no results from the paid wrenches...i think we both had to replace that module (the black one) that controls the high idle (1100)...did you fix your window?
Re: [MBZ] Idle change
Does its distributors vacuum advance can have TWO vacuum hoses? One on the advance side and the other on the retard side? If so, Im guessing that the A/C control tweaks them to manage idle speed, when it deems it necessary. If thats true on your 380, as it was on my 280s (77 SE and 78 SLC), that might be a place to troubleshoot. It is on the passenger side front of the engine. It gives trouble on my 380SE. I will try to find an illustration of it. Thomas E.
