Re: [MBZ] Ignit. lock

2008-02-03 Thread LarryT
Hi Fred,
My 78 240D was the same way. I finally gave up, too. The design of my ign
cylinder is different from that shown in the manuals - there is no hole to
insert a hardened pin - after removing the clock I could see the cylinder,
it has a piece of spring steel that must be compressed to allow the cylinder
to come out. I squeezed it and pried it without success. Luckily, the one
time I had trouble turning the key has not been repeated. I still have my
new cylinder in my tool box.

Take care -

Obviosly there is more, or less, than meets the eye to this lock

it
and lock cylinder with its protective steel cover came right out. 'Made

the lock release? I did not need to remove any molding nor the
rubber/plastic around the lock - old one slipped right out and new one
slipped right in with jiggle on key to align it properly.

I had no luck with the homebrew tool on my W124, either. Finally took
it to my indy who was able to do it in 10 minutes. The factory tool
is made of spring steel, which I believe makes a difference. Too much
jiggling and pushing with the wrong kind of tool can actually make it
worse.

This is one of those jobs where you need experience and someone to show
you how to do it.
Took me ages to figure out the 123 lock but I had a lock out of a wreck
to practise on.

Hendrik
with spare locks but have not had to replace one yet
