[MBZ] Intermittent cruise op, 85 TD

2006-01-21 Thread Harry Watkins
My wagon has three phases and no warning of which is on duty.

On an 80 mile trip the other day, nothing would make it work as I tried
numerous times/things. Next time it works after fiddling with it. Yesterday
on the out trip, it engaged like a new one, lasted about four miles, disengaged
and quit. Coming back trip, it worked like a new one all the way with calling
for it about four times.

The return spring for the pedal seems pretty stiff to me and I wondered if that
could be a cause.

Where should I start looking?

CL is very aware of these scams. Everyone should be by now. They
always throw a disclaimer/warning up for those who choose to
advertise there. It is usually highlighted in yellow..

Where should I start looking?

_Inside_ the cruise control amplifier. They are notorious
for bad solder joint problems. See:

I suppose it would be alright to link to this page in the articles
section? (you are not planning on taking it down are you?)

OK by me, I've no plans to change anything. (Of course, who
knows with my ISP how long it'll be staying, but it's been up
for a coupla years at least.)

The problem is almost always poor solder connections - usually inside
the amplifier.

Perhaps a "mirror" on the okiebenz site would be prudent?
A lot of the content from MBZ.org is getting harder to find these days --
