In one of his tool tear-downs, AvE gave a good review to the Harbor Freight "Earthquake" impact wrench a while back. At the time these were made in Taiwan. Might want to check before buying that is still the case and they have not switched it to mainland PRC. Re: [MBZ] Knackering today
I've got a Makita 1/2" impact, it's the "big one" for 1/2" drive and pretty powerful. A couple months ago I had to replace a front wheel bearing on my 2015 VW Jetta. It's a unit bearing and the nut just laughed at my Makita so I brought out the Aircat 1/2" drive air impact which also couldn't budge it. I'm not sure the Aircat is any more powerful than the Makita but I figured I'd give it a try. I ended up bouncing on the end of a 6' cheater. My 200# plus 6 foot of leverage got it done. I don't know what I'd have done if I needed more power... Re: [MBZ] Knackering today
My '84 190D had the front wheels torqued so tightly that they warped. I ended up taking it to a guy who had a 1" drive impact wrench normally used for big trucks. We had to use a couple adapters to get back down to the right size and were worried the adapters were going to break. Still got 'em off though. If you are going to make a habit of dismantling cars, you need to get a good impact wrench. [MBZ] Knackering today
I managed to get the front wheels off the ML350 parts car. I think the bolts were cranked to about 200+ftlbs as I had to stand on the bar and jump a bit with my 194lb container. Got the transfer case, transmission, and torque converter off the engine. I am told those were fine when the engine kakked. Most importantly I pulled the ISM off this transmission and will use it on the ML63. The transmission itself can go into this 06ML500 I have had sitting for sometime needing a transmission. Swap over the ISM and TCM/conductor plate and should be good to go. Not the easiest job but will be interesting at some point. Started raining so I had to stop but I want to get the steering rack and front diff and axles off it. And struts and brakes stuff. Then jack up the rear and get that stuff off too. Then doors and hatch and one more side airbag. Re: [MBZ] Knackering today
I have a bunch of “private” knackers around that specialize in European cars, but their prices are just stupid. LKQ isn’t too far from me, but it’s worthless. There are “lot rats” that strip anything and everything of value on cars as soon as they come in, no doubt to resell on eBay. So anything that’s left is just crap. -D > On Apr 29, 2023, at 12:11 PM, Bob Rentfro via Mercedes > wrote: > > I miss going on excursions like that. > > AZBob > > Sent from my iPhone > >> On Apr 29, 2023, at 12:07 PM, Buggered Benzmail via Mercedes >> wrote: >> >> Met Max at a local junkyard that had a coupla 211s, one black/black.
