My wife's 2010 Dodge Charger has lot of Mercedes components/parts on it.
Apparently, there was an option on transmissions and the Mercedes transmission
was an option. I have heard lots of horror stories about Chrysler
transmissions, so that was one of the things I verified before buying it.
Apparently, the suspension, differential, transmission and lots of electronics
are all Mercedes parts/components. It is a very nice car.

Re: [MBZ] MBCA show and W140 with wing

2011-08-01 Thread Curt Raymond
I had in a Dodge Avenger in Texas a couple weeks ago that had a terrible
transmission. It only had 1400 miles so we'd hope that its not broken...

The torque converter would stay locked down to ~25mph at which point it would
unlock with a thump and a jolt. The first time it did it I thought the
transmission had gone.

It was also super sloppy, stomp on the gas and there was a big lag before the
engine did anything, then a big lag before the transmission did anything.

Final complaint, it seemed like it had very long legs, the 1-2 and 2-3 shifts
were huge jumps at which point it felt like the engine had zero power. Once the
rpms built the engine seemed decent but it would drop down way too far between
shifts.

Horrible car. Fiat's top priority when they bought Chrysler was to
revise it and to make it more competitive in the Camry/Accord
segment---hence the Chrysler 200 and its silly Imported from Detroit
ad campaign.

I also was puzzled by the thing. It was brought by two Asian guys and I
never figured out what the point was. Everyone was too polite to egg it.

The simple answer is that their taste is different than yours.

They are much younger (I am guessing) and Asian. Why should they think
like we do?

I say, more power to them. It helps to keep the auto hobby alive and
moving forward.

Might well be a fine car but it does very little for me in the visual
department.

If I were going to buy a late model Chrysler product, I would get the 300.

Let's hope not! I've seen a few low-rider 300s, but I think those
were intentional. ;)
