I use Mobil 1 ATF in the manual transmission in our '81 240D. Works great.

Prior to the 123, all the manual trans took ATF.   I don't know about 
123 and later, cause i've never had any of them.  I rebuilt a 200D 
trans that had 90W Hypoid in it.

But here goes:

Remind me the situation regarding MB's requirement for lube in the manual
