you dont need the engine installed in the car, just hook your
compression tester to it, hook power directly to the starter to crank it
over a few times.

thats why you always check the compresson of the engine on the ground
before you even go to install it.

The first engine was one that the seller 'knew the car personally and it ran

setup, but only for installed engines.
That second engine came with a complete check-out and full compression test

printed out showing 365 lbs / cylinder from Potomac German. All I could
have done is taken my small knowledge of MB diesels to the parts supplier
[third engine came from Maryland] and requested they do it again with me
watching. I wouldn't have known any more than I did. Perhaps the indy
doing the checks was having a lazy day. Engine #3 came from the sellers
personal car [Potomac German employee] and he says it runs as it should and
he changed the oil every 3k. I have had to trust my mechanic [AutoWorx in
Melbourne], a very good choice; and trust the suppliers, a bad and
questionable choice. I love the car enough that I will be happy if my $4500
gives me a good and reliable car. It is my sincere hope that this engine
outlasts me, and with my updated plumbing I plan to stick around for awhile.
