Unless you are rich (defn: never need to consider the cost of anything)
_of_course_ it matters! It's a resource allocation game. If you spend
more on tires, and can no longer afford ammunition for your home defense
system, _are_ you actually safer?

It was less than $600 shipped for a set of 4. They are listed on Tire Rack in

Re: [MBZ] Michelin Premiere Review was RE: Tires

2017-11-01 Thread Curt Raymond via Mercedes
I've actually done really well with my last batch of Chinesium snow tires. Last
winter we were driving home in a snow storm in Angie's Golf when an accident on
the other side of the road shot a car into our lane. I stomped on the binders
thinking "There is no way..." but amazingly the car stopped perfectly, tracked
in a straight line and halted about 10 feet from where the other car (same year
Jetta actually) shot across the road in front of us.
I got us pulled to the side of the road, got out of the car and immediately
slipped and fell...

For what? The tires? Can’t say I remember. Was probably about $130 each

If we are talking safety, does cost matter?

I have those on my now wrecked 97 e300. I have put probably at least 20k miles
and they are still like new. I can drive nearly full speed in heavy rain and
they never lose traction.

[MBZ] Michelin Premiere Review was RE: Tires

2017-11-01 Thread Donald Snook via Mercedes
Speaking of tires, I can now provide a review of the Michelin Premiere. I
have already put 7,000 miles on them. They are marketed for superior wet and
cold traction. I can report that based on my experience this is a valid claim.
My car had Michelins on it before and they were great. I'm not sure how many
miles they had as they were on the car when I bought them. But, they lasted a
VERY long time. I replaced them with some used Sumitomo and I thought they
were decent. I did apparently have an alignment issue and they were VERY fast
on the outside edge. I replaced them with the Premiere 2 months ago and have
driven in some nasty rain storms. They had MUCH better grip than both the
Sumitomo and the prior Michelin. I am curious how they will do in the snow.
I am still trying to locate a decent set of snow tires for my car. But, I
think these Premiere will do pretty well. My commute is 80-85 mph on the
interstate and there were several times I experienced a little
slippage/hydroplaning on the old set. But, these new ones have been excellent!
Some reviewers complain about road noise. But, I don't notice any excess
road noise. They are quieter than the Sumitomo and as quiet as the prior
Michelins.

How much UV exposure have they had, and how much of the last 12 years was
