So, was that $21k before or after the 'doc fee'?

Edmunds is showing the base truck as 18.5 MSRP, 17.5 invoice, and 17.7 true
market value (including destination). $2300 (or even 1800) under MSRP probably
beats Edmunds' expectations.

$21k before $498 Doc fee + $630 Taxes + $170 lic.

Yeahbut, the one we were looking for at $18.5 MSRP, the one they talk about
to get ya in the door, is supposedly rarely available. The ones that are
available have another $2K worth of crap hung on 'em, then +, then +, then
+, then +, etc.; suddenly you're at $23K; make a deal, then tack on Doc fee,
tax and lic, etc.

Glad I don't hafta buy a vehicle often.

That's very close to the discount I got on the F150 using the X-plan
partner with EAA. The difference is that the X-Plan fixes the max for the
documentation fee at something closer to reasonable - $50 or $100 - I
don't remember exactly, only that I was not outraged at it.

[MBZ] New Toyota truck shopping

2013-04-24 Thread WILTON
OK, y'all, here's another chance for ya to excel. #1 son (single, no children)
has hit a deer and totaled his Toyota pickup. He'd like to get another similar
vehicle. Old one is '06 Tacoma Access (extended) cab, 4 cyl, manual tranny.
He's still trying to recover from lay-off as surveyor 3 years ago; went to chef
school 'bout 2+ years; 'been working again (chef) 'bout a year. SWMBO and I've
been helping 'im financially since his lay-off.

Checking on internet, I've found a possible replacement vehicle (reg cab,
though) at $19,000+ MSRP. I've never bought a vehicle via all of all of this
new-fangled internet stuff -- well, I did find my showroom 87 300D 9 years ago
on cars.com, then reverted to traditional method of personal contact, viewing,
driving, negotiation, etc. - but do ya have any tips about other info that I
may obtain from internet before I go out to the dealer's? What sort of
negotiation is possible on dealer's internet price, etc?

BTW, he'll get loan at my local fed. credit union where he also has home loan.

Re: [MBZ] New Toyota truck shopping

2013-04-24 Thread Rich Thomas
A coupla weeks ago I went through Costco and found a Ford dealer up in
the DC area (Columbia MD) who had all their prices on their web site,
the sales guy who called me had a coupla other reduction deals (student
-$500, first time buyer another -$500 I think). The prices were about
as low as I have seen, pretty much pay and go. I don't know if Toyota
does like that, but that seemed like a pretty good way to do it, and the
sales guy was like, come and get it, this is the best you can do
anywhere, and I had to agree. He also said his price was lower than
what the Costco price was.

You might recall I looked at used prices and even for a car a few years
older they were not significantly less, considering what issues a car
with 50k or 70k miles might have. The market is kinda screwy these days.

I kinda get the sense that with the internet, and dealers just looking
to move product (their margins come on repairs and financing) you can
find the bottom-line deal by looking around, and asserting cash money
drive it away no screwing around pricing. I would think that something
from the RDU area, or Charlotte, would give you a better deal just
because of volume they move, or even a bit further into DC area. You
want a Toyota, just check their web sites and see what they have, shoot
a note, ask for cash money price today.

Re: [MBZ] New Toyota truck shopping

Another thing that popped into my pea size brain.

FiL was looking for a toyota pick em up in special color and trim. He could
not find it near him in PDX, so he had the dealer look further afield. He was
able to find one out in L.A., so flew down and looked it over, bought and
drove it home. I think it was not brand new and he got a good price.

In that vein, the Audi wagon is not well desired in the L.A. area, but they get
stuck with an allotment. Prices are stupid low, since nobody there wants them.
An Audi wagon is worth more than gold in Seattle though, so the guy who
turned my FiL onto the looking in the southland has made a tidy profit heading
down every so often and snagging a car off the lot for near dealer cost, drives
it up and then sells if for many thousands more in a market with great demand.
