You can thank California for their emission laws that prevent us from getting such vehicles. SVX engine? Or maybe WRX? SVXs are enough of a cult item that using the engine of a defunct one somewhere else seems wrong. WRX Imprezas, however, are a dime a dozen (at least in the Pacific NW) and I bet an awful lot of them get totaled with perfectly good drivetrains... [MBZ] OT: VW Vanagon Diesel
http://bloomington.craigslist.org/cto/1880175143.html Sounds like it has a leaky head gasket despite attempted fixes. If anyone wants a project, you can put pretty much any VW or Audi gasoline engine in there using the diesel bellhousing, or a TDI if you are really wanting to keep it a diesel. The NA VW diesel is NOT a robust engine in this application. It is way underpowered for that heavy van and you can easily blow it up by pushing it. 60 - 65 MPH as a top highway speed is about what they will do. On the plus side, Vanagons are very practical vehicles, with ton of usable interior space.
